What a wonderful community we have! Many of the library board members were optimistic and I was hopeful, but never did I imagine we would reach our goal to completely cover the cost of our solar installation project in 3 months. But we have! We have even raised over our $178,000 goal. Some of our donors have been willing to have their donation go towards other energy saving measures that we are planning for next year. With so many generous contributions we can install solar, and then update our HVAC management system and other energy saving plans. We have signed a contract with Solar Holler, LLC. They have begun the detailed engineering work and we are underway.
So many of you have donated in whatever way you could, and we are so grateful. Every donation; from loose change in the solar donation jar, to large bequests have made a huge difference. Now we wait; but while we wait we continue to plan for how our library can continue to make a positive impact in our community.
If you take a look at our Annual Report for this past year, you will see a great summary of all we done. In August, we try to regroup and recover from the very busy season of Summer Reading. So while our program events might be less, we are still adding new books and looking forward to seeing all of our great patrons. Also, in August is FOSL's semi-annual book sale. Be sure to sign up to volunteer, drop off donations starting August 5, and most importantly shop.
See you at the library!

While we are currently in the next phase of our Solar Project, we could still use your help as we are now at 90% of our goal!

Throughout the duration of the 2026 Summer Reading Program, Unearth a Story, the Friends of Shepherdstown Library funded the programs we were able to offer. They continue to be immensely supportive and contribute to our success as a library.
An additional thank you goes to the Shepherdstown local businesses that helped create the children's completion prize of a coupon book and the organizations that assisted with the raffle prizes.
