Official news about the City of Cedar Park from the City of Cedar Park.
Parks amenities, Library limited opening and City lobbies update, more New County and State level orders
We have a phased approach to reopening City facilities and amenities, just as the State of Texas is using its own phased approach for Reopening Texas. Your health and safety are our top priorities, so we’ve been carefully assessing and preparing our facilities and staff – according to CDC guidelines – and evaluating what other health and safety measures must be implemented in order to align with protocols outlined by the Governor.

Parks – as of May 8
Our parks and open spaces remain open. We’ve reopened certain amenities at limited capacity, including pavilions, basketball courts, volleyball court and the skate park. We’ve also opened parks restrooms.

Most City of Cedar Park Pools traditionally open daily Memorial Day Weekend. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that began in March, our timeline for opening pools is delayed. The reason for this delay is that the uncertain pandemic conditions prevented us from being able to actively recruit, hire and train the necessary number of lifeguards during the spring, to staff our pools for the summer. We are now in the process of recruiting, hiring and thoroughly training the necessary number of lifeguards – while still adhering to the guidelines set forth by the current Governor’s Order and the CDC. We have not yet finalized a firm opening date. We will keep our community updated when a date is established for our City of Cedar Park Pools to open.  We also continue to evaluate CDC recommendations to guide us in determining when we may safely open our playground equipment and Splash Pad. We will keep our community updated on that as well.
The Cedar Park Public Library – May 18
The Cedar Park Public Library plans to reopen with capacity of 101 people and limited hours beginning May 18, 2020: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Library will remain closed on Sundays, temporarily. The Library will continue providing online and curbside services.
Certain City building lobbies – May 18
Based on anticipated delivery of necessary safety supplies and the installation of our facility safety improvements to minimize certain touchpoints and person-to-person contact, the City plans to reopen these public lobbies May 18: City Hall (including Fire Admin, Permits and Development Services) and the Cedar Park Police Department.

As a preventative measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19, City offices and departments will continue to provide services in a way that limits in-person interactions. Other City facilities and amenities are under review. We will continue to update our community. The City of Cedar Park asks community members and staff to please continue doing the great work of following physical distancing, handwashing and other CDC recommendations to help combat the spread of COVID-19. Visit cedarparktexas.gov/coronavirus for updates and information.
New Orders

Travis County extended its Stay Home Work Safe Order through June 15, to be consistent with and provide guidance beyond the Governor’s Order. Click here to read the new Order.
Williamson County is now operating simply under the Governor’s Order.  Governor Greg Abbott’s newest Executive Order was issued on May 5. It expands openings of certain businesses and activities. Click here to read the Order.
Rumor patrol
Myth: Recycling goes to the landfill
Truth: Cedar Park Disposal/Central Texas Refuse utilizes single stream recycling. This means all paper fibers, plastics, metals and other containers are mixed together in one container before being transported to a processing facility by truck where items are separated for recycling. Get a complete list of what can and cannot be recycled here.

The City’s first Yard Trimming Recycling period ended May 1, 2020. Our provider was happy to be able to recycle yard waste during this time frame and look forward to being able to offer the same service in the fall to all residents of Cedar Park. We will keep you updated on our social media and our website when a start date has been set. You can still put yard waste out with your trash the remainder of the year as long as it is bundled or bagged as part of your seven extra bulk items each week. Get all the information you need about trash and recycling here.

Trash fact: Our trash collectors have been working extra hard, as many of our residents have been home. Trash collected from Cedar Park residents in April 2019 totaled 419.86 tons. In April 2020, they collected 520.06 tons of trash. That's a 24 percent increase!

Williamson County launches small business grant program
Do you own a small business in Williamson County? If so, be sure you look into Wilco Forward. This is a grant program for small businesses, funded through the CARES Act. In Phase 1 of Wilco Forward, Williamson County has set aside $25 million for grants to small businesses within Williamson County that have been affected by COVID-19. The maximum amount any small business can receive is $30,000. The deadline for applications for Phase 1 is June 30, 2020.  Find out if your business qualifies and apply for a Wilco Forward grant here.

For other resources for small businesses in our community, the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce has helpful information on their website.

May is Building Safety Month. This week highlights a precious commodity, water. Our Code Officials are protectors of our water supply. They watch for faulty or no backflow protectors when homes and businesses are being built – so you can turn on your tap with no worries. Learn more here .
