Official news about the City of Cedar Park from the City of Cedar Park.

Storm Recovery Update, February 2, 2023

First we want to say, we're with you, Cedar Park! That was a rough past few days with this ice storm, and we hope everyone was able to stay safe and warm.

As we move into the recovery phase of the ice storm, the City of Cedar Park's immediate focus remains on public safety, clearing roadways and maintaining utilities for all residents.

Our City crews will be working through the weekend to continue clearing major roadways of fallen trees and limbs - to ensure these roads are passable and safe for emergency vehicles and motorists.

We understand our residents are experiencing major tree damage on their properties. We are developing a plan to provide support to our residents. Those plans are being finalized and details will be shared as soon as they're confirmed with contractors.

In fact, all City parks are closed to the public until further notice, while we assess the damage and make it safe for our visitors.

We are continuing to experience power outages that are intermittently affecting traffic signals throughout Cedar Park . We are working with the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) to ensure traffic signals are stable and operational.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work thorugh the many challenges this storm brought to Cedar Park, but together, we can do it!

In Public Roadways

For tree limbs in the public right-of-way, City crews continue to work to ensure roadways are passable and safe. At this time, the City will only remove tree limbs that are blocking roadways and presenting a danger for emergency vehicles and motorists.

Downed trees in public roadways can be reported on our website or by calling 512-401-5550.

Residential/Private Properties

Downed trees and limbs disposal on private property is the responsibility of the property owner. In an effort to assist our City residents with disposal, the City has the following options:

Option 1: Central Texas Refuse (fastest method)

As part of the City’s contract with our trash services provider, Central Texas Refuse, residents can:

  • Place up to 7 additonal items free of charge next to their garbage container along the curb on their trash pickup day
  • Brush must be bundled
  • Each bundle must be less than 40 pounds and no larger than 4’ x 4’ x 4’
  • Read more here
  • Trash is currently running on a delayed schedule through February 11. Find the delayed schedule here.

Option 2: Private Tree Service

Reach out to a tree service and have them assist you, at your own expense.

Option 3: City -Organized Events

For Cedar Park residents, the City is working to organize:

  • Free, 2-day brush drop-off event on February 11 and 12
  • City-wide residential curbside pickup program, date to-be-determined. When plans are finalized, find more information on our website.

Questions? Call 512-401-5550, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cedar Park City Parks are CLOSED until further notice

There are so many parks in Cedar Park, and we're in the process of visiting them all to assess damage and clear fallen trees and limbs.

We have lots of falling trees and limbs as they continue to thaw. This can be extremely dangerous. For your safety, please refrain from entering our closed City parks while damage is being assessed and debris is being cleared.

We share your frustration that there are hundreds of downed trees all over Cedar Park - including in our roadways - so much so that trash and recycling trucks were not able to access all areas on the run today and may continue to have issues for the next few days.

If your collection is missed, the trucks will be unable to pick up the next day as they usually do. Your service will slide to the week of February 6. We understand this is inconvenient and appreciate your understanding as we all work together to recover from this storm.

Updated schedule

Here’s the schedule for residential customers (Please note: This schedule could change if further delays occur):

  • Pickup normally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31 will be picked up Thursday, Feb. 2
  • Wednesday, Feb. 1 will be picked up Friday, Feb. 3
  • Thursday, Feb. 2 will be picked up Saturday, Feb. 4
  • Friday, Feb. 3 will be picked up Monday, Feb. 6
  • Pickup the week of Monday, Feb. 6 will continue to be delayed by one day.

Can’t remember whether this is your recycling week? Find a calendar and street list here.

Be careful out there

WATCH OUT!

While many trees and limbs have fallen already, use caution when walking under trees as more limbs could fall.

Please be careful while driving. Crews are continuing to clear the roadways, but there are a lot of fallen trees and limbs out there!

TRAFFIC SIGNAL OUTAGES

Cedar Park Police are monitoring several traffic signal outages at various intersections throughout Cedar Park.

Everyone please slow down, drive with extreme caution and treat any intersections with blacked-out traffic signals as a four-way stop.
