The City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department Strengthens Partnership, Works to Secure $750K Funding for The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD

We are thrilled to share the news of our extending collaboration with The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. Through this partnership, The Harris Center will receive an additional $750,000 in funding to support 120 individuals facing substance use disorder and housing instability. This funding will enable us to connect these individuals with essential resources, empowering them to regain their independence and live with dignity as active and valuable members of our community.

The financial support for this initiative comes from a combination of sources, including $500,000 from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) and $250,000 from Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) funds. The program will specifically benefit individuals residing at two properties in Midtown.

“At HCD, we are dedicated to nurturing and enhancing our partnerships with organizations like The Harris Center to address the long-term housing needs of all members of our community, said Director Michael C. Nichols, City of Houston Housing and Community Development. “Together, we are committed to finding sustainable solutions that will positively impact the lives of those in need.”
