Vallejo, CA – The Vallejo Public Works Department is excited to announce that major street paving work is about to begin on several key roads throughout the City starting October 6. After a summer of preparing curbs and gutters along the project routes, crews are now ready to move into the final phase: laying down fresh, smooth asphalt.
These early preparations are critical to building long‑lasting streets. Curbs and gutters do more than frame a roadway; they provide the strong concrete edge that keeps asphalt from shifting, cracking, and crumbling under the weight of everyday traffic. They also set the correct slope so rainwater flows safely into storm drains, reducing flooding and protecting the road structure beneath. A tight, clean connection between the asphalt and gutter helps prevent water intrusion that can lead to erosion and major potholes. In addition, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 requires cities to install or upgrade curb ramps to meet ADA standards whenever roadways are repaved or resurfaced. This ensures our infrastructure is more accessible and inclusive with every project.
In short, when the groundwork is done right, Vallejo’s roads stay smoother for longer, and that’s exactly what this project aims to deliver.
This project marks a major investment in the future of Vallejo’s streets. $6.3 million is dedicated to creating smoother, safer routes for our community. And we’re not stopping there. This year, Public Works will deliver a total of $15.3 million in Measure P–funded improvements across the city, pushing forward our commitment to better infrastructure and better mobility for everyone.
