SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Mike Johnston
For the past several years, Mike Johnston has been an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Claremont Senior Computer Club. In particular, he has been an ardent advocate for efforts to improve seniors' competency and comfort with their mobile devices. During the school year, Mike can be seen attending every Teen Techies workshop, a monthly offering in collaboration with the City of Claremont's Youth Program at Claremont High School, encouraging his peers to utilize this helpful offering. Prior to the pandemic, Mike was also instrumental in the CSCC subgroup Smarter Seniors with Cell Phones, a biweekly peer-led tech support lab that offered help with all cell phones, from flip phones to the newest iPhone. In all, Mike can be considered the mouthpiece of the Computer Club who is sure to spread the word about their workshops, ensuring that as many seniors as possible take full advantage of the tech support that is available through our program. We thank Mike for being a dedicated volunteer and cheerleader for the Claremont Senior Program!
In need of tech support with your device (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.), or simply looking for a computer to use for the afternoon? The CSCC is currently hosting their tech assistance lab in the Joslyn Center Annex twice a month to help! Drop by with whatever device, hardware, or questions you need help with on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Are you tech-savvy, yourself, and looking to help seniors? Volunteers ages 16+ are welcome! Contact the Joslyn Center at (909) 399-5488 to see how to become a volunteer for the CSCC tech assistance lab!
