On October 22nd, the Claremont Senior Program partnered with LA County Public Health to administer free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations and free health giveaways for the community. | |
Programs are intended for individuals age 55+. All activities take place at the Joslyn Center unless otherwise noted. Register for activities at the Joslyn Center or online.

The Claremont Recreation & Human Services Department's Activity Guide for the Fall 2024 season is available online. The Activity Guide is where you will discover new and returning classes, events, and activities for all ages that will be available to the community from September through December. Joslyn & Blaisdell Closure Dates | |
Both Joslyn and Blaisdell Community Centers will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day, November 27 at 1pm (following meal service), and November 28-29 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

AARP Smart Driver | One-Day Course | |

$20 for AARP members/$25 for non-members*
This classroom-based defensive driving course is designed for persons 50 and older who are seeking to sharpen their driving skills and who have previously completed the full two-day course. After five hours of instruction, a DMV certificate will be issued entitling participants to a discount on their automobile insurance.
*Materials fee: $25 ($20 for AARP members) in cash or check due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Chess for Fun! is a new chess group that meets Mondays from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Joslyn Center. Whether you have many years of experience or are just learning how to play, come connect with others over the game of chess.

2nd & 4th Fridays

In this biweekly club, explore dance styles such as Zumba, Bollywood, Jazz, and Hip Hop in a casual, fun way. Join this class to de-stress, enjoy movement, and find joy in expression. This class also includes dance circles and playlists that are inspired by the participants themselves for maximum fun! Instructors are Claremont College students with backgrounds in various dance styles.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Pre-registration is required, and ongoing sign-ups are welcome!

This 12 Step Program is in support of those who wish to stop eating compulsively.

The program offers physical, emotional and spiritual recovery. This specific group is focused on women's support, but all can receive literature, guidance, and local meeting lists upon request.

Stay happy and healthy through dance! Learn official international line dances, and have fun improving your coordination, posture, motor memory, and dance skills in this class. Most of all, enjoy dancing with others! Participants are asked to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Some line dance experience is required for the intermediate class. Instructor: Selina Chi. Both experienced and first-time artists are invited to participate in these one-day workshops, where different art techniques and mediums are explored each session.
This series is provided by Tierra del Sol Foundation, an organization that provides people with disabilities pathways to employment, education, and the arts. Participants are provided with art materials, a demonstration by experienced arts educators, and step by step guidance throughout the process.
*A $10 materials fee (cash or check) is due to the instructor at the start of the workshop.

LA Regional Senior Food Bank | |

The monthly senior food bank, hosted by the Senior Program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Larkin Park. LA County residents ages 60+ are invited to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides a free food kit once a month to seniors who meet income guidelines. The food kits are prepared with specific nutritional needs in mind, such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, cereals, and more! Join us for a hot meal, social activities, music, and various recreational happenings Monday through Friday. Lunch is served promptly at the Joslyn Center (660 N. Mountain Ave.) at 11:30 a.m. and at Blaisdell Community Center (440 S. College Ave.) at 12:00 p.m. First come, first served. No reservations required.
This program is funded, in part, by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging.

AgingNext will be hosting a movie screening at the Laemmle Theatre. "Keys Bags Names Words" is a documentary film about hope in aging and dementia.
Interested parties can sign up on AgingNext's website. There is a $10 fee that includes the movie ticket, a drink and popcorn!
