On September 25th, the Claremont Senior Program hosted its annual Shredding Day Event, which gave the community an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents. This fundraiser generated $3,500 in donations to purchase outdoor game equipment for older adults! | |
Programs are intended for individuals age 55+. All activities take place at the Joslyn Center unless otherwise noted. Register for activities at the Joslyn Center or online.

The holiday party will be held at the Historic Padua Hills Theatre! We know this gorgeous location is out of the way for some, so we will be offering mass transportation from the Joslyn Center for those who need it. Space will be limited for this shared ride, so please indicate during enrollment if you will be using it to get to our event and if you have a mobility device.

Naturally Inspired Crafts | |

Do you love nature and crafts? "Naturally Inspired Crafts" is a free four-week workshop focused on creating art motivated by the outdoors. Claremont College students will be leading a new craft every week including: tissue paper flowers, sun printing, plant pot decorating, and fall-themed cookie decorating with karaoke. Learn how to make these crafts at our student lead workshops and take home your nature inspired craft to enjoy at home! All crafts are while supplies last.
Oct 8 — Nature Walking and Sun Printing: Walk to gather items to imprint onto cyanotype paper using the sun (weather permitting).
Oct 22 — Pot Decorating and Planting: Paint your own pot for your new succulent.

Oct 29 — Fall Cookie Decorating and Karaoke: Come decorate fall themed cookies and enjoy karaoke with some new friends!

Knitting with Care - New Start Time! | |

Calling all knitting and crocheting enthusiasts! Use your knitting skills for a good cause with this group, “Knitting with Care,” which meets each Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Joslyn Center to work on knitting or crocheting projects that will benefit local nonprofits. Projects include blankets, scarves, hats, and gloves to benefit recipients in need. This season, finished projects will be given to those experiencing homelessness via Inland Valley Hope Partners and/or cancer patients undergoing treatment at Pomona Valley Hospital's Robert & Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center. Bring your needles, hook, and yarn, and join the fun! Individuals with projects for family and friends are welcome to join, as well.

AARP Smart Driver | One-Day Course | |

This classroom-based defensive driving course is designed for persons 50 and older who are seeking to sharpen their driving skills and who have previously completed the full two-day course. After five hours of instruction, a DMV certificate will be issued entitling participants to a discount on their automobile insurance.
*Materials fee: $25 ($20 for AARP members) in cash or check due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Whether you are looking for ways to develop your observational skills, find a vehicle for artistic expression, or experience a more personal connection with nature, this class will guide you with friendly instruction and practice sessions that will help you become a proficient nature journaler. All levels of experience and interest are welcome! Participants are asked to bring a blank sketchbook (5.5"x8.5" is recommended), a pencil, and a black waterproof pen. Watercolor pencils or small set of watercolor paints is optional. This group will meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month. No fee, pre-registration is required. Instructor: Pat Kuenning.

In this biweekly club, explore dance styles such as Zumba, Bollywood, Jazz, and Hip Hop in a casual, fun way. Join this class to de-stress, enjoy movement, and find joy in expression. This class will also include dance circles and playlists that are inspired by the participants themselves for maximum fun! Instructors are Claremont College students with backgrounds in various dance styles.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

This series is provided by Tierra del Sol Foundation, an organization that provides people with disabilities pathways to employment, education, and the arts. Participants are provided with art materials, a demonstration by experienced arts educators, and step by step guidance throughout the process.

From the early 1900’s to post-WWII, from Voltaire to Joyce, this book club will explore existentialism, absurdism, war, the role of literature, and beautiful prose, among many other topics. This club will meet on the first Friday of each month to discuss the reading selection. The Claremont Gerontology Association, a group of dedicated volunteers from the Claremont Colleges, is excited to read good books and have great discussions with you!

Come join a game of PĂ©tanque in the northeast area of Larkin Park at 3pm each Sunday with the Claremont PĂ©tanque Group. PĂ©tanque is a social outdoor game in which two opposing teams toss or roll a number of hollow steel balls as close as possible to a small wooden target ball. This activity is open to anyone 18+. Pre-registration is suggested.
All participants must sign an annual waiver, which can be found on the Claremont Petanque website or by visiting the Joslyn Center.

The monthly senior food bank, hosted by the Senior Program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Larkin Park. LA County residents ages 60+ are invited to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides a free food kit once a month to seniors who meet income guidelines. The food kits are prepared with specific nutritional needs in mind, such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, cereals, and more!
