December 5, 2016 The Clubmaker Report
Brought to you by the new Aldila Rogue Elite
What's New From Aldila

Aldila has an interesting new shaft line for clubfitters coming soon called the Rogue Elite.

The Rogue Elite consists of two weight classes (55/65) with three distinct profiles (low/mid/high launch). All six shaft profiles employ Graphitic Carbon with an MSI of 110 (most shafts have a MSI of 35-55).

Aldila has developed a numerical system to identify each unique shaft profile. The higher the number, the stiffer the tip/middle/butt section of the shaft is.

For example, the low launch profile is 995 (stiff tip/stiff middle/soft butt section). The mid launch profile is 859 (stiff tip, soft middle, stiff butt section), and the high launch is 788 (softer tip a bit stiffer middle and butt frequency).

Each shaft has a new paint/graphic scheme to identify each. Grey to Green fade=low launch, Grey to Blue fade=mid launch, Grey to orange fade=high launch and include the familiar Rogue graphic. They're sharp shafts.

Price is $285 and I can install on about any OEM sleeve/adaptor.

I've added a pdf at my dropbox that details the new line and fitting system, materials, and shows the new graphics, here.

Our friends at MyGolfSpy asked on Twitter "is the Aldila Rogue Silver the best shaft in golf?" Based on unprecedented number of Tour wins, the answer has to be a resounding yes. If you're interested in trying out the best shaft in golf in your OEM adjustable driver, send me a note for help choosing shaft and flex and for a price quote. The shaft is $285.50, add $40 for an OEM sleeve/install.

Aldila has a great looking catalog/flipbook with detailed descriptions, photos and specs of their entire shaft line. Check it out here. Send me a note for pricing on any shaft in the Aldila line.

The new Aldila Rogue I/O is also shipping. The Rogue I/O is a Rogue shaft with "RIP" (Reverse Interlaminar Placement) technology to lower the shaft torque and further stabilize the shaft tip. The new technology moves the torque core (bias plies) from the interior to the exterior of the shaft laminate stack in the tip section. Hence the name I/O, for Inside-Out. Moving the bias plies, which control shaft torque and aid in cross sectional stability, to the outside of the shaft makes more efficient use of the these fibers to lower the torque of the tip section.

Rogue technology uses new extremely high modulus, 'Graphitic Carbon' fibers that provide performance characteristics never before available in a golf shaft. The new material is four times stiffer than steel but less than a third of the weight, they can make the shaft stiffer without adding weight. The Rogue I/O is lower torque and has a bit lower launch/spin vs. the Rogue Silver shaft. Price is $289.50 plus shipping. I can install about any OEM shaft sleeve on the new Rogue I/O shaft.

The new Rogue Tour Irons (R/S/X flex) and Rogue Pro irons (in A/R/S) and the new 2KXV hybrids.

The new Rogue Pro shaft utilizes the same advanced Graphitic Fiber Technology that provides the Tour favorite Rogue wood unmatched distance and accuracy. 65/75/89 gram weight, 4.2, 4.0, and 3.5 torque, and .370 tip. Price is $29.50 each. A/R/S flex. Send me a note if you'd like to order.

There's a fitting page/chart that lists most of the current Aldila shafts here . Each shaft is shown with it's launch/spin characteristics relative to one another. Includes the new Rogue shafts.

Aldila has their new Shaft Catalog Magazine at their home page at http://aldila.com , it's a great online format to see all the great new shafts from "The Number One Graphite Shaft in Play On Tour". Send me a note for pricing on any of the Aldila shafts.

Yamada Putters

I have one of the special milled burning copper Yamada Emperor 2 putters left in stock for immediate delivery (most orders take 3 months or so).

I have them made up in Yamada's beautiful burning copper finish (normally only available in the more expensive hand made Yamada models).

The price for the Emperor 2 in burning copper is $325 with the standard steel shaft or $350 with an ion/black shaft upgrade.

The Emperor 2 has the same soft steel as the pricier handmade models and includes a Yamada logo'd rubber grip and Yamada headcover. It is Yamada's most popular design with perfect weight, balance, and feel.

Hybrids

This week's focus is on hybrid shafts.

All of the major shaft manufacturers have shafts designed to improve the performance of hybrid heads.

You may have noticed Jordan Speith's burnt orange Tour AD DI hybrid shaft from Graphite Design on TV. He uses this club a lot off the tee on tight fairways and towards the end of a tournament when he needs to keep the ball straight off the tee and fairway.

The made in Japan Tour AD Di hybrid is available in 75/85/95/105 weight classes. It has a stiff tip section for faster swings and is priced at $220.

The Tour AD HY hybrid has a bit softer tip and mid section to help get the ball airborn. It is available in 65/75/85/95 weights and has a slightly higher torque vs the DI model. Price is $175.00 and it has a good looking black/grey graphic. This

Graphite Design's YS Hybrid is from their US series. It has their famous great feel, is available in 75/85 weights and is priced at $79.00. R, S or X flex.

Send me a note for help choosing the right Graphite Design hybrid shaft and for order instructions.

KBS made their name making premium steel shafts that are very popular on Tour.

They're introducing their first graphite shaft model for hybrids.

It's got a sharp matt black paint treatment and their bright red/black shaft graphic. 65/75/85/95 weights. Price is 175.00 each, send me a note to order.

Here's what they have to say about their new graphite hybrid shaft.

The KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid is designed specifically for players that are looking for a hybrid shaft that will maintain light dispersion, all while having the feel, consistency and ease of swinging an iron shaft. KBS Golf Shafts ultimate goal is to make that the transition from KBS irons and KBS wedge shafts to the new KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid seamless with a perfect fit for each golfer specifically. To ease the transition, the KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid also offers stability through the hitting area for consistency and performance. The KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid has undergone extensive testing both behind-the-scenes in research and development, and on Tour where it has begun to pick up immense popularity.

Hiskei makes a great superlight hybrid shaft that is made in Japan from premium Toray Japan materials. It's priced at $36.00.

The Hiskei HD50 hybrid shaft is avialable in L (51g), R (52g), Strong Reg (54), and Stiff flex (56g). Torque is 4.3. It has a great looking bronze to silver fade paint treatment. More information is here.

I also sell hybrid shafts from Fujikura, Matrix, Aldila, and UST Mamiya. Send me a note for help and pricing on any of these.

Air Force One Irons

Air Force One (formerly a part of Powerbilt) makes a great game improvement iron/hybrid set that utilizes their nitrogen charge technology.

They charge the heads with nitrogen that acts as support to the clubface. They're able to make very thin/hot unsupported faces that transfer energy to the golf ball.

The iron/hybrid set is available in both component form and assembled.

The component heads come in a set of 5-PW at $160 for the set ($26.67 per head). The #3 and #4 hybrid are $70 each.

The assembled price 5-PW plus #3/#4 hybrid is $599 in steel (irons steel/hybrids graphite).

The all graphite assembled set is $699. You can see a picture of the set at my Clubmaker facebook page here.

For a Christmas special I'll do free shipping to US customers with orders through Friday December 9. Send me a note to order.

Hiskei Wave
  Shaft and Clubhead Special Pricing
More testimonials on the Wave shaft from Clubmaker Report readers. john: after having the wave in my driver for one year--it ain;t leavin any time soon. just an amazing piece of equipment. we have a bunker at 195 carry and for the first time in many years i can carry it. my longest tee shot this year was 238 using my golf logic. over the winter the wave will enter my four and six woods. keep up the good work terry

And also this:Hello John, I just thought I would give you a further update on my experiences with Air Force and Hiskei. Quite frankly it has revolutionised my game . When I am swinging well I am amongst the  longest in my group , BUT , our ages range from 40 to 75 , and I am the oldest . As long as I  put a good swing on the driver , I am 20-30 yards longer and as a result I am hitting more  Greens in regulation , between 8 10 , and it is my putting that is holding me back . My  handicap is 10.5 , but in the last two rounds have played to 6 and 8 , chiefly because of my  driver. Now I have been reading about the AFO version of the fairway wood , which uses the same  principle of the RBZ woods with the speed gap behind the face...

New Clubmaker Report readers may not be aware of the great review Mygolfspy did on the Wave shaft. My favorite part of the review reads "Is this really happening?" by one of the reviewers after studying the launch monitor numbers showing 6.3 more yards and 4.8 mph increased ball speed.

Read the MyGolfSpy review here.

The Wave shaft is $125. I can install about any OEM adjustable sleeve from Taylormade, Ping, Cally, Nike, Cobra, and Titleist for $40 including the sleeve and install labor.

Flexes are A (205 cpm) , R (220 cpm) , SR (firm 235 cpm), and Stiff (250 cpm).

I can also build drivers and fairway woods with the Wave shaft. Consider the 2 piece cast Hiskei LG350, the forged Hiskei IN driver, the new Air Force One nitrogen charged driver and fairway woods.

Most customers do best going one flex stiffer than they would normally play (an R flex plays like an A flex, a Stiff flex like a R or Firm), A flex like a soft A flex). Best to send me a note to discuss flex first.

If you play the Wave shaft in your driver, consider trying it out in your fairway wood. I've built quite a few for my customers and I'm playing it in my fairway wood and it performs great.

If you'd like to build a Hiskei LG350 driver with a Wave shaft I'll give you wholesale pricing on the head ($140) so you can build yourself a beautiful Japanese driver for $265 (shaft and clubhead).

New Hiskei Superlight Shaft

Hiskei has updated the graphics in their superlight AT50 shaft with a beautiful Ion bronze finish.

The AT50 features 40 ton Toray Japan material and specs to generate faster swing speeds for a variety of golfers.

Here are the specs: L flex 44g 195 cpm, A flex 46 g 210 cpm, R flex 48 g, SR (firm) flex 51 g 235 cpm, S flex 54 grams 250 cpm, X flex 57 g 265 cpm.

Raw shaft length is 45" (vs. 46" for most shafts). Torque is listed at 4.5 but I had it measured and the actual torque is a bit lower at 3.8.

The price is $90 each. Add $40 if you need an OEM tip/sleeve installed. Great shaft at a great price point, highly recommended.

I just built a Hiskei 16 degree fairway wood for a customer with the new ion bronze AT50 shaft and it's a beautiful combination with the tobacco sunburst LG350 fairway wood head. The head is lighter and with the superlight shaft it's easier to swing than many fairway woods. He's had a chance to play it and loves it, he writes: I love this club. Can you make me a similar club, wither the same shaft and head only with a loft of 19-22 degrees?

The component price for the 16 or 19 degree fairway wood head is $50. Headcover is $10, ion bronze AT50 shaft is $90 for a total of $150 for the components.

Assembled price is $175.00.

Follow the link below for pictures of the sole and top of the LG350 fairway wood. Send me a note if you need help choosing the right flex for your swing.

Hiskei Component heads

I spend a lot of time writing about Hiskei's shaft line (a full compliment of woods, irons, hybrids) and wanted to spend a little time talking about their excellent component heads.

Their top of the line is the 350 series with a driver, fairway wood and hybrid clubhead.

The LG350 driver is my favorite component head. It is made in Japan from 2 piece cast construction (most component heads use a much cheaper forged process).

The heads are lightweight (186 grams in the 12 deg, 193 grams in the 10.5 and 9.5 lofts). The drivers have hot faces that would be non-conforming (if tested, they didn't submit to USGA). Price is $175 for the head and $10 for a headcover (if needed). Buy a Wave shaft at $125 and I'll give you wholesale pricing ($140) on the LG350 head.

The lightweight head works great with the Wave shaft and it will play true to flex (no flex adjustment needed in the lighter head). You can find pictures and more information here, send me a note for help if you'd like an assembled driver, order component here.

The Hiskei fairway woods are a lightweight low profile design so they're easy to get airborne for extra distance. The fairway woods come in 16 deg and 19 degree lofts and have a hot maraging steel face.

The fairway wood heads are $49.95 each plus $10 for a headcover (if needed). I like either the Wave shaft or the lightweight AT50 shaft in this head. More information on the LG350 fairway wood head is here. Send me a note if you'd like an assembled fairway wood, if you're building your own, order the components here.

Finally, the Hiskei LG350 hybrid heads have the same maraging steel face, a minimal offset design for control (especially if you have problems hitting to the right).

Loft choices are 16/19/22 and the head price is $49.95, add $10 for a headcover if needed.

Hiskei makes a really nice superlight hybrid shaft (50 grams) that works great in this head. Price for the shaft is $36 each. Pictures and more information on the hybrid clubhead and shaft here.

The wedges are a nice introduction to the Hiskei Japanese forged irons. Super soft 1020 steel is stamped 5 times to remove imperfections (like the super premium Miura irons). Available in 50/52/54/56/58/60 lofts and the price is $65 each for the component head or I can assemble for you with your choice of shaft. Send me a note for a quote on assembled wedges, if you're building your own order the components here. and for order instructions.

Hiskei also makes a beautiful forged iron set called the AX203. Same some 1020 steel, perimeter weighted for forgiveness. They also leave the head unfinished for those of you that like to experiment with doing your own paint fill.

Price is $455 for set of 7 (4-PW only, they won't break up the set). Send me a note if you'd like me to build, if you're building your own order the components here.

Short Shots

I've got one of the Fujikura original 661 R flex clearance shaft left in stock priced at $150 (was $350). 68 grams, stiff tip, great shaft.

Order a Hiskei Wave shaft at $125 with the Hiskei LG350 clubhead and I'll give you wholesale pricing on the LG350 cast driver head. Build yourself a made in Japan driver for $265.

I'm working with Hiskei on a new mid 60 gram graphite shaft. It will have the same 40 ton premium Toray Japan materials as their lightweight/Asian spec shaft but with a heavier US spec design/profile. They sent me a picture with a great looking matt black paint treatment and a few other colors. You can pay $350+ for comparable Japanese made shaft. This one should be priced at about $90.

I carry quite a few different components from a wide variety of manufacturers. I'm a distributor for Air Force One (formerly Powerbilt). KBS, Accra, Matrix, Mitsubishi, Alpha, Hiskei, Bang Golf, Aldila, Fujikura, Graman, Graphite Design, Penley, UST Mamiya, Integra, MOI Golf.

I can get most of the OEM tips for the adjustable clubs, add $40 to the shaft price for most clubheads for sleeve/install labor. You'll get a shaft cut to length, gripped, and ready to install in your club.

I've tried most all of their products, send me a note for help choosing the right one for your game.

The winner of Tiger's tournament this past weekend played Graphite Design Tour AD in both his driver and fairway wood.

Geezer Golfers

I get a lot of email from senior golfers looking to add more distance to their drives.

I specialize in super lightweight and flexible shafts and high lofted and lightweight drivers, fairway, and hybrids that are much easier to hit than the OEM offerings and can help increase swingspeed and distance.

They also help with fatigue as you can get worn out after 18 holes hitting a club that is too heavy and stiff for you.

The Hiskei fairway wood with superlight AT50 shaft is a good place to start. The price is $175 and is available in 16 degree or 19 degree and in L/A/R/Strong Reg (SR)/Stiff/X

I have a few different high loft, lightweight heads that would work in a senior driver. Send me a note and tell me a bit about your game and we'll come up with something.

Looking for Hiskei Dealers

If you have a golf shop and are a fitter, I'd be interested in talking to you about becoming a dealer for Hiskei.

The components are made in Japan and I have a full line of premium clubs for you to carry.

If your shop caters to senior golfers, you'll do quite well offering a unique made in Japan line of clubs that are priced well below Miura and they other premium Japanese brands (with the same quality). Send me a note if you're interested.

Cheapo Depot

I can still get a few of the special pricing on the Fujikura 661 Speeder R flex ($150 original price. $350). It's a great shaft, 68 grams with a stiff tip profile. Special ends when my supplier runs out.

Send me a note to order.
