FAMU introduced James Colzie, III as the Rattlers 19th head football coach Monday. During a news conference at Bragg Memorial Stadium’s Ken Riley Field, President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., welcomed Colzie and thanked those who contributed to the selection, including the FAMU Board of Trustees, Chief Operating Officer Donald Palm, Ph.D., who worked with the search committee, FAMU National Alumni Association, the Rattler “F” Club, Rattler Boosters, 220 Quarterback Club, FAMU Foundation Board of Directors, faculty, students, and student athletes.

FLBOG Approves FAMU President Larry Robinson’s Contract Extension | |
The Florida Board of Governors (FLBOG) unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. Meeting on the Florida State University (FSU) campus, the governing board for the 12 State University System (SUS) institutions, accepted the contract extension recommendation submitted by the FAMU Board of Trustees.

Data Privacy Awareness Week

FAMU held its first Data Privacy Awareness Week, January 21-27, to highlight the importance of protecting sensitive student and employee information. The effort was led by LaTonya Baker, chief privacy officer and director of Compliance, who urged senior administrators and staff to be privacy champions by using secure passwords and other methods.

Rattler Initiative

FAMU has launched the Digital Rattler Initiative (DRI) in collaboration with Apple to support student success. This spring, 800 first-year students will receive iPads and access to digital apps that focus on developing three 21st Century Skills—learning, literacy, and life.

Otis Mason Passes
|
Dr. Otis A. Mason, the first Black elected school superintendent in the state of Florida, who received the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from FAMU during the 2022 Spring Commencement, died last month in St. Augustine. He was 95.

Being a first-generation student of Haitian descent, moving seven hours away from home to attend FAMU was no easy feat for Joshua Pierre-Louis. The senior computer engineering student struggled to receive financial assistance from his family in South Florida. Pierre-Louis’s route to graduation should be smoother now that he received the David E. and Mary J. Pollard Scholarship.

| Texas to Roll Out New FAMU License Plate |
FAMU alumni in the state of Texas are close to rolling out a new Rattler license plate. In order to move the plate design forward to production, the specialty plate vendor must receive 200 pre-orders no later than June 12, 2024. You may pre-order your plate(s) with a personal message or with characters selected by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Also note, plates are offered at one, three or five- year terms with discounts applied to three or five-year terms.

| Barbara Cohen-Pippen, Former FAMU Director of Governmental Affairs, Passes | Barbara Cohen-Pippen built a career spanning more than 40 years, holding pivotal roles in higher education and legislative affairs.
