Scholarship Dinner at Dooky Chase / McDonogh 35 vs Carver

(October 19th and 20th)

Honoring the legacy of Coach Wayne Reese Sr., and his commitment to student-athletes, The Coach Wayne Reese Football Classic and Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20. The dinner fundraiser at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant on the 19th will benefit the Coach Wayne Reese, Sr. scholarship program. The football game will showcase the McDonogh 35 and George Washington Carver football teams on Oct. 20th at Tad Gormley Stadium.


During the two-day celebration, The Edgar “Dooky” Chase Jr. and Leah Chase Family Foundation will present grants to benefit student-athletes at McDonogh 35 High School, George Washington High School, and Booker T. Washington High School – the 3 schools where Wayne Reese had great impact.


The Coach Wayne Reese, Sr. Scholarship will be awarded to student-athletes at each school that displays leadership, high moral character, and that has been accepted and registered into a two- or four-year college. In addition, each school will be awarded funds for tutoring and educational enrichment programs to ensure all student-athletes are meeting educational requirements for college admissions.


For five decades, Coach Wayne Reese, Sr. was one of the most influential coaches in the State of Louisiana. He is one of only 24 coaches in the state to surpass 250 wins. Coach Reese served as head football Coach at Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Washington Marion (Lake Charles) and McDonogh 35 High Schools. Coach Reese has been recognized nationally, regionally and locally for his commitment to the development of young men.


The Edgar “Dooky” Chase and Leah Chase Family Foundation's mission is to cultivate and support organizations making significant contributions to education, creative and culinary arts, and social justice. The October 19th Scholarship Dinner at Dooky Chase is $60.00 per person. It begins at 6:00 pm. Funds raised will be attributed to the Coach Wayne Reese Sr. Scholarship. Checks can be made to the Edgar “Dooky” Chase Jr. and Leah Chase Family Foundation, please indicate Coach Wayne Reese Sr. Scholarship on the donation.
