EAE BUSINESS SCHOOL RESPONDS TO COVID-19 WITH STUDENT CHALLENGE BASED ON DESIGN SPRINT
EAE Business School (Barcelona and Madrid, Spain) developed a 7-week student challenge to identify solutions to problems that arose because of COVID-19 including: pandemic prevention, supporting the elderly, advising small businesses, and helping unemployed people find new sources of income.

The challenge was based on the Design Sprint methodology created at Google by Jake Knapp, where the five stages of design thinking are each completed in one day. EAE extended the program to five weeks (with an additional week for introduction and results) to accommodate the online environment and encourage teams to have a functioning prototype to demo in the final week. Student teams benefited from weekly sessions with tutors and mentors, and found value in a free online collaborative whiteboard platform Miro , that may be helpful to Collaborative members.

Industry experts gave feedback and ultimately selected the idea with the greatest potential for implementation. The winning team was Iura, a solution that helps victims of domestic violence gain better access to legal information, make connections with specialists, and be better protected within the bounds of the law. Team Iura was invited to compete for one of the ten spots at the EAE LAB Propeller, a 3-month intensive startup acceleration program.

The challenge was run by Santiago Tobón , EAE LAB Program Manager and Henri Mennens , EAE LAB Design and Development Director. Contact them for more details.
