WELCOME TO THE COLLABORATIVE QUARTERLY | | Keep the Collaboration Going at Our Upcoming Network Event | | |
At our Spring Network Event, members of the Santa Barbara County Regional Climate Collaborative came together for a whole-systems mapping activity (see the summary here) to make the climate work already happening across our region more visible. Participants mapped current efforts across key climate focus areas, creating a shared picture of the projects, initiatives, and partnerships already underway throughout the region.
The activity sparked important conversations about where efforts overlap and where greater coordination could strengthen impact. In breakout groups, members explored opportunities to connect existing work, identify gaps, and consider how collaboration could help advance shared goals.
So, where do we go from here?
At our upcoming Network Event on October 29 in Lompoc, we’ll build on this work as we bring together partners from across the Collaborative, including members of the Guadalupe-Lompoc Initiative (GLI). As GLI comes to a close, we’ll celebrate what has been cultivated through two years of collaboration while looking ahead to current efforts, opportunities to stay engaged, and pathways for continued learning and coordination.
Join us as we weave together the people, ideas, and efforts shaping climate resilience across our region. WE ARE SEEKING SPONSORS

Permit for Heat Pump HVAC Systems Now On-Demand The City of Santa Barbara’s Community Development Department, in partnership with Santa Barbara Clean Energy (SBCE), has streamlined the permitting process for heat pump heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system replacements. The new On-Demand Permit is designed to provide homeowners with instant approval for replacing an existing gas or electric resistance HVAC system with a high efficiency heat pump system. This update enhances customer service, reduces processing time, and supports the City’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2035.
SBCE provides financial support for qualifying projects by waiving upfront fees for On-Demand Permits, making the permit free for applicants. Additional incentives for purchasing and installing heat pump technologies, and for associated electrical work, remain available through SBCE’s Home Electrification Accelerator Program (HEAP).

City of Santa Barbara Eastside Library EV Chargers Project
The City hosted a ribbon cutting on August 26, 2026 for the official opening of the Eastside Library EV Chargers Project, providing access to some of the fastest public EV chargers on California’s Central Coast. The site features four DC Fast Charging ports with advanced power-sharing technology, a combined output of 600 kW, and up to 400 kW per port. The chargers are powered by 100% carbon-free electricity from Santa Barbara Clean Energy. The project supports the City’s 2024 Climate Action Plan by expanding access to fast, reliable EV charging, particularly in underserved neighborhoods. Increasing access to convenient charging helps encourage electric vehicle adoption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Santa Barbara Westside Street Trees Program
Santa Barbara Clean Energy (SBCE) is excited to launch the Street Trees Program, a new effort to bring more trees to Santa Barbara neighborhoods. Qualifying residents with grass or open soil in their parkway can receive a free street tree planted by the City of Santa Barbara. Residents who participate will become "Tree Stewards" and help the newly planted Street Trees thrive by providing regular watering over the two-year establishment period. Street trees help to provide shade, improve local air quality, and lower street temperatures. Street trees also provide an important environmental benefit: when paved parkways are replaced with trees and open soil, rainwater has more space to soak into the ground. Residents with a paved over parkway can also apply for the Storm Water Management Program to increase stormwater capture. These efforts can help reduce stormwater runoff and support a healthier, more resilient Santa Barbara. SBCE customers who reside on the Westside are invited to apply.
