THE COLLEGE CELEBRATION ISSUE
May 2021
College Decision Day

Congratulations to our seniors! We are thrilled to share that Building STEPS seniors have committed to colleges in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Georgia! Since 2000, Building STEPS students have earned degrees from more than 60 colleges and universities throughout the U.S and abroad. Kudos to the Class of 2021!

Honoring Our College Grads

Building STEPS isn't just about getting into college; it's about college completion, persistence and the transition to career success. College Connect programming begins with college commitment to ensure our incoming freshmen are equipped for their first year of college and continues beyond college graduation.
Congratulations to our 23 May college graduates!
A May 2021 University of MD graduate, Sierra earned a degree in Computer Science. Sierra joined Building STEPS in 2017 as a junior from Digital Harbor High School.
A first generation college student, Sierra took advantage of Building STEPS STEM exposure, summer internship and ongoing college support.
She joins the ranks of our hundreds of college grads.
Baltimore Ravens Celebrate With Students

We wrapped up a year of engaging, eye-opening programming with the Senior Celebration, an annual tradition for Building STEPS students. Special guest Vernon Dennis, Baltimore Ravens PR Coordinator, shared personal stories and college and career advice-"create your college village" and "love what you do, the money will come." With heartfelt congratulations and well wishes, Vernon and the Ravens are sending the seniors graduation swag!
Thank you Baltimore Ravens! Watch our end of year video!
Honorable Mention

These are the faces behind Building STEPS; the driving force behind our high school, college and young professional engagement. Planning interactive STEM programs, creating and leading college workshops on the college essay, admissions and choice, assisting with financial aid and scholarships, completing the FAFSA and preparing for an internship or job interview, they MAKE IT HAPPEN! Their commitment remains top-notch and effective throughout the college access and completion equation.
Thank you to this dynamic team!
Doing Our Part

A Baltimore City Public School social media post inspired Building STEPS PR Coordinator Annie Mondell Richard to collect "Bears and Blankets" for the students at Hazelwood Elementary School. Many of the children had lost a parent to Covid 19, and the school was on a mission to bring a smile and a bright spot into their students' lives through the "Bears and Blankets" promotion. Thanks to Mr. Simms and the Hazelwood administration for a kind, beautiful idea.
Equipping our city's brightest students with the tools to
propel them to college and career success.
