A Message from Pastor Matt

CPC Family,

It’s an important week in the life of our church! And it isn’t just because the Seahawks have an important football game this weekend (if you care about sports). It’s our Annual Congregational Meeting. It’s a time where we come together to pray for our church, hear about the ongoing ministries inside and outside the church, and receive some important financial updates. Each year when this time rolls around, it always causes me to stop and take stock of what is happening at Columbia. I find myself asking things like:

  • “Are we really growing in life together just now?”
  • “Are we really living out our vision to be an intergenerational church that is forming disciples of Jesus, and sending them out into the world?”
  • “Are we caring for our own people in the body of Christ and looking out for those in need in our community sufficiently? Where could we improve that work?”

But, those questions are really about our activity. And while we should pay attention to our work because it is a sign of whether we are responding to the grace of God, I think the best question to ask is: “Lord, what are you up to in our midst?”

And so, it’s fitting that before we ever get to a congregational meeting this Sunday, or a football game, we are going to be spending some time in worship and reflecting on worship as a heart-forming habit in our lives. Worship is many things, but it is especially a time when we acknowledge the worthiness of God for our praise. It is also a time where we stop to ask that question: “God what are you up to in this church and in me?”

So, I would invite you to come and worship with us this weekend. To take some time to stop doing any number of things and just come and wonder who and what God is calling you to do and be. He might just be calling you to rest and be reminded that you are a child of God. He might need to remind you of his holiness and power! What we know is that God often uses worship to shape our hearts and lives. We will explore what that means as we read through Hebrews 10:19-25. You might read from the beginning of the chapter to prepare yourself for worship!

We hope to see you here!

Columbia Faith & Life Conference: Faithful Living in Secular Times

February 27-March 1

We live in an age that goes at the speed of the internet, with social media, deep fakes, and AI an everyday part of life. In this fast-paced world, for many people God and church seem like ancient remnants of another time. How do Christians make sense of things and live faithfully in this secular age? Andy Root will help us to see how deeply the church has been impacted and exhausted by trying to keep up with the speed of these secular times. He will help us to find new spiritual footing that will help us avoid the traps of the secular age and live a richer, more abundant life that is grounded in Jesus Christ.

We are often unknowingly shaped by the culture that we live in. Ours is a secular culture that tells us that our identity and value is in what we can produce and how popular we are. We get caught up in the rat race and become exhausted or come crashing down when we fail to live up to the expectations of secular society. Andy unmasks the forces of secularism and will help us to see how we can resist secular forces and embrace the deeper ways of Christ. Register here.

Work Camp Auction Donations

Your donations are the first step to a successful Work Camp Auction - which is our primary way of funding our summer high school Work Camp. This year the students will be assisting in Hurricane Helene relief in Tennessee and North Carolina. For the Auction, we need physical items, experiences, services, monetary and gift card donations. Donation information sheets are available in the office, at the Welcome Center, and on Church Center. Please plan to return those with your items by the end of February. Do you have questions about donations or the auction? Contact the Auction Coordinator, Amanda Stimmel.

Lunch must be purchased in advance to be guaranteed, so don’t wait. Register and find all the details here.

Missions

Senegal Go Team

They are on their way! The Senegal 2026 team left Portland very early Tuesday morning! The team, Connie Warner, Kerby Boschee, Bob Swenson and Chris Keinath, were sent off with prayer from a small group who met them at 5:15am. After a flight to NYC with a several-hour layover, landed on to Dakar/Thies at 8:00am Wednesday Senegal time (which is 8 hours ahead of us). They would appreciate prayer as they encourage our partners and communities. Click here for their Prayer Itinerary.
