A Message from Pastor Scott

“Made One: A Series on Reconciliation with Christ.”

Atonement, Redemption, Reconciliation, Salvation – These are all biblical words that are getting at the same idea: God’s action to make things right between Him and us, and all of creation.

Redemption is a word and concept that can help us have a deeper understanding of what God has done for us. Redemption means the act of gaining or regaining possession of something in exchange for payment. It can also mean the clearing of a debt. In the Bible it generally means that someone has lost something through injustice, debt, or death, and someone else has stepped in to buy the lost property back and restore it to its rightful owner. Sometimes the “something” lost was a person – such as when someone was sold into slavery. To be sold into slavery was to be taken from your family, home, land, and sometimes clan or nation. For a slave to be redeemed, or purchased back, was to be restored to their family, home, land and nation. It was not only freedom from slavery but also a homecoming.

In Luke 1:68 Zechariah joyfully proclaims, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.” Zechariah is not only pronouncing freedom from sin, but also a homecoming – we come home to God and have a place in His house, where we belong. To be redeemed is to be restored to our rightful place, it is clearing all debt along the way, and it is a joyful homecoming which is why all the angels rejoice over one sinner who repents.

Grace and Peace,

Scott

Announcements

Introducing the 2025 Summer Interns

Each summer we get the honor of having a handful of high school and college-aged students join our staff as our summer interns. Our interns come alongside both Tifny and Lydia to help lead Children’s and Youth programs in June, July and August. Our internship is a way our students get to dip their toes in what it looks and feels like to be in vocational ministry. Along with leadership roles, our interns get to participate in weekly Bible studies, book studies, and program planning. We are excited to welcome 12 students to our 2025 Internship class. To see their names and faces, and to learn a little more about them in their own words, click here.

Middle School Bike Hike

Registration closes June 30

July 25-31

Bike Hike is a uniquely fun week of camping, biking, playing, eating and worshiping for all those who are finishing up 6th-8th grade. Registration closes on Monday, June 30 and we don't want you to miss out on the fun! Not sure if you are registered or need to pay your balance? Visit the church app, log in with your cell phone number, then click on your profile in the upper right corner. If you know you haven't signed up, register here.

Spam Awareness

It has come to our attention that the hackers are once again busy. We are aware that some members of the church have received emails/text messages from church staff or other members of the church asking for aid (something like “Do you have an Amazon account?” or with links attached “You should see this”). Do not respond to these emails or open their links. If you are unsure, reach out to the sender by phone directly to ask if the email is real. What these hackers do is trick you into replying, which then gives them access to your email address book so that they can send spam emails to others. Let’s not help them out.

Mission Connections

Mac Staff Appreciation

Last week, CPC sponsored the fourth and last Staff Appreciation event of this school year at McLoughlin Middle School. We let the staff know CPC appreciates their dedication to the nearly 900 students by providing snacks and beverages. We purposely schedule these for busy times like end-of-quarter grading or this one at the end of the year when there is lots of special work.

Watch for our backpack/school supply/shoe opportunity at the end of the summer.
