A Message from Pastor Matt

Friends,

As many of you know, this week is going to be my last week at CPC for just a little while. I am headed out on a sabbatical this summer, as I did about 6-7 years ago, and will be away for the next 3 months. I'll be spending time with family and adventuring here and there. Over the last few weeks, many people have reached out to wish me well or have just wanted to say hello. Thank you. They have also asked me how I feel about it all.

First, I am very thankful for this. While I know I work hard and that my role is uniquely taxing in a few of ways, there are few people who have the chance to have this kind of break and I am aware of that. All I can do is be thankful. Second, I am also kind of anxious which is unusual for me. I want to make sure everything is set here, but I am also genuinely bummed not to be a part of a number of things that are going on right now. There seems to be lots of little fruit on several fronts. Because I love momentum it makes this break a harder launch than the last one. And last, I am just now starting to get excited. That is very normal for me as I don’t tend to pre-anticipate things in my life. They just arrive and then I go do them. So, that is how I am doing.

What I am looking forward to right now though is this Sunday. We will have a chance to enjoy one of the most layered, comforting, and practical stories in the Gospels. It is one of my favorite stories and I think you will enjoy it as well. Not only can we see Jesus in this story, but without giving us any specific instructions for ministry, he teaches us a ton about how to serve and love and engage with others and with him. And I think he does it with just a little bit of humor and teasing.

Come join us if you dare.

Pastor Matt

Mowtown in the News

If you happen to subscribe to The Columbian newspaper, you may have recognized some familiar faces - or perhaps a familiar trailer. Mowtown Teen Lawn Care, an offshoot of the Columbia Future Forge that hires teens to do landscaping, was highlighted on the front page in an article about the challenges of finding employment as a teen. Josh Meyer, the new Director of Mowtown, spoke with the author of the article, and several of our teens are featured in the accompanying photographs, which we’re sharing below. A subscription is required to read the full article, which can be found here.

Senegal Ministry

Witness What God is Doing in Senegal

God is doing amazing things through CPC’s Christian ministry partners in Senegal. Go Teams have seen many Glimpses of God during their trips that they have shared during their annual post-trip congregational communication sessions. If what you heard from previous Go Team trips has you wanting to personally witness what is going on in His name in Senegal, please prayerfully consider applying to become a member of the 2026 Go Team. For those interested, here are important dates to be aware of as the information and application processes begin in June.

  • Informational Q&A sessions to learn more about the trip and about the country of Senegal. They will be held on June 22 & 29.
  • Go Team applications to be submitted by July 20.
  • Interviews and team selection to be completed by August 15.

More details on the time and location of the Q&A sessions will be posted in the Columbia Weekly and the bulletin. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can reach out to the Senegal Team and someone from the team will get back with you.
