It has been a very good and productive week. Not only have we hired a Director of Congregational Care (see below), approved the work of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee so that they can begin receiving applications, (read more below), but we are also celebrating our graduates this Sunday. It is exciting to see these students who are launching into a new season of life. They will need our prayers and support during the coming years.
My hope and prayer for these graduates, and us, is that we will do what Isaiah calls us to do when he says, “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens...” (Is. 40:26). As our graduates dream about life in the years to come, and the decisions that lie ahead, I hope that they will indeed lift up their eyes to the heavens, to the Lord who can give them wisdom to choose well. My prayer is they will focus more on becoming the person that God wants them to be, with the moral character that Jesus calls them to live by, than they will worry about choosing their college major or career path. These are also important decisions, but too often we are not encouraged to develop our moral character, and to keep our eyes lifted up, as we go through the challenges and decisions of life.
It is by lifting up our eyes to the heavens that we arrive at the place where we discover that God gives “strength to the weary” and helps us to “soar on wings like eagles.” We will focus this Sunday on daring to dream of a life that lives this way. Come and join us for worship as together we live the life of discipleship.
