Columbia Friends,

This week, while giving thanks for moms and all the women of our church, we are going to be gathering around 1 Peter 3:13-22. It’s a really interesting set of Bible passages that is super practical for one section and kind of technical in another. But the main point of the passage is encouragement. It is another reminder that God has things in hand and that we need not panic in the midst of difficulties or even suffering. It’s also an important Sunday because we are going to be ordaining and installing our Deacons and Elders. Some of these folks have served in these roles before, so we only install them for a new term. Others of them are being ordained for the first time. In our church all our Elders and Deacons are ordained. It is a slightly different ordination than the pastors have, but we still consider them ordained. So, this is no small thing.

We believe that because you nominated them and voted for them, that God has led them to these roles for a season. It is a really cool expression of the idea that God doesn’t just call pastors or priests to do the work of the church. He calls all of us to be sent out together as God’s people. We all have a role and a place. We are all invited to be signs of God’s Kingdom. So, I would invite you to come and celebrate this expression of God’s will. These brothers and sisters will need your prayers just like your pastors and staff members at the church do.

God is calling all of us together this Sunday to worship. Come and join us!

LIFT Day

Saturday, May 16, 1:00-6:00pm

Fellowship Hall and Various Off-Site Locations

Join us for our first LIFT Day on Saturday, May 16, as we serve together in our community. We’ll begin at 1:00pm with a brief time of prayer, then head out to a variety of local ministry sites supported by CPC. Service opportunities will include helping at Clark County Food Bank, spending time with children at Open House Ministries, making cards at Columbia for older members of our congregation, and more. We’ll return to the church at 5:00pm to share dinner together and reflect on the day. Register here.

Sanctuary

The adult choir would like to invite anyone who is interested to join us for one Sunday as we sing “Fairest Lord Jesus.” One practice remains on Thursday, May 14 from 7:00-8:15pm in the Sanctuary. We will sing the anthem on Sunday, May 17 at the 9:00am service. No experience needed and no pressure as this is a group effort!

Registration opens Friday, May 15 and fills up quickly!

Step back in time to ancient Egypt as we explore the life of Joseph. Through worship, crafts, and an interactive marketplace, kids will discover what it means to trust God. VBS costs $35 per child. Financial assistance is available upon request by emailing Tifny Mathena. Children must by at least 5 years old by the end of August to register for VBS. Children register based upon the grade they are currently in (ex. a preschooler in May will register as a preschooler and a 5th grader in May will register as a 5th grader).

Farragut State Park

Bike Hike is open to all youth who will have completed 6th-8th grades. Registration deadline is Monday, June 1. Register here.
