A Message from Pastor Matt | |
CPC Friends,
Come and join us this Sunday for the start of the Advent season. This Sunday we will be returning to the lectionary (assigned passages each week) to preach from. I like this way of preaching as it allows the pastor to focus on the passage rather than fighting the temptation to make the text match some part of a sermon series.
You will also get to hear a brief update on the Columbia Future Forge. The Missions team has encouraged us to share about what is going on with the Forge and there are important things to share.
Last, if you look below, we are starting to put a devotional Psalm in the Columbia Weekly each week as another reading option. A congregant had suggested this after the series on the Psalms last summer. Each Psalm will have a few sentences to guide you into prayer, journaling, etc. We are going to cycle through the Psalms in order.
Pastor Matt
Sunday Reading: Isaiah 64:1-9
Weekly Psalm: Psalm 1 (The Way God Knows)
Psalm is exhortation through positive and negative examples to adopt a fruitful life rooted in God. It seems to be a guide for the life of a disciple. Psalm 1 is often read not just as the first Psalm, but as a preface to the entire book of Psalms. Perhaps it can be the preface for you this week.

Advent Devotionals
The Eternal King Arrives is the name of this year’s Advent Devotional. As we “wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13), this devotional can help us get ready for His arrival. Pick up a copy in the Gathering Area this Sunday and read it daily to reflect on how the Lord might be speaking to you during this season of His coming.
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God,
be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen”
1 Timothy 1:17
