Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corporation Diaper Drive

The Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corporation will be hosting its 3rd Annual Diaper Drive to benefit the Lakewood community. Diapers, ointment, and wipes (unopened packages only, please!) will be collected. We are requesting diapers in Sizes 2-6, which are currently the most needed. We will be delivering these to our friends at the Family Room at Cove Community Center and Trials for Hope for distribution to families in Lakewood.

We were able to collect nearly 5,000 diapers last year for the community and are confident we can exceed this target with your support!

The details:

Where: Lakewood Masonic Temple (15300 Detroit Road)

When: July 15th, from 9 am – noon

How: Just drive through the parking lot - You don’t even need to leave your car to donate

LCC Volunteer Opportunities

LCC's Community Meal

We will be offering our monthly

Community Meal

Thursday, June 1

We served bake chicken marinated in Italian dressing and covered with Parmesan cheese, scallop potatoes, green beans, fresh bananas, and brownies. Our guests were able to choose from a chicken breast or a leg and thigh. Our volunteers were Paula Deal, Robert Wenz, Bob Paraska, Susan Walker, Wendy Summers, Nancy Fraunfelder, and Doug Horner. The brownies were made by Vicky Smigelski and Joanne Ritschel. We made 47 meals - 43 meat meals and four vegetarian meals. Two vegetarian meals were leftover, which were given to AA. We had 20 people attend. And our cost was $90.08. Peggi and Michael Mizen

Food delivery services have changed since the onset of Covid. If you have the means to donate, two local organizations that could be donated to are the Cleveland Food Bank and the Lakewood Community Service Center.

Each first Sunday of the month is our dedicated Hunger Sunday.

There are Hunger Envelopes at the back of the Sanctuary for your donation towards this LCC Ministry.

UCC Webinar — Seeing through the Smoke: Wildfires, Climate, and a Path Forward

How can we find a path forward in addressing the wildfires that have created a landscape of crisis in our climate changed world? This webinar will feature leading thinkers and practitioners in answering this question. Panelist John Vaillant has recently released an acclaimed book entitled "Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World,” while panelist Kimiko Barrett from Headwaters Economics is a wildfire research and policy analyst who has been interviewed by national news outlets for her insights. Even if you cannot make the webinar at its scheduled time on July 12, at 1 pm ET, still sign-up, you will receive a link to a recording of it. Register now with this link!
