NEW HEADMASTER:
WELCOME MS. ROWLAND
After an extensive search, ASTEC Charter School is proud to announce the hiring of Ms. Michelle Rowland as Headmaster. Ms. Rowland brings a wealth of experience to ASTEC. She spent twenty-three years at Putnam City Schools serving as an administrator.

At Putnam City North High School, Ms. Rowland was awarded “The Golden Apple,” which is Putnam City’s highest honor bestowed upon faculty and staff. During her tenure there, she implemented an impactful advisory program to help a school of 2,300+ students at the height of enrollment feel like a smaller learning community. She also created a freshman academy with peer mentors and mediators and a “Be the Change” club, a credit recovery program, tutorial, academic support groups, and an 8th grade Open House and Orientation program to assist students’ transition into high school. 

Ms. Rowland earned the Academy “Fellow” designation for completion of the CCOSA Principal’s Leadership Academy. She was a finalist for the CCOSA Assistant Principal of the Year.  

Ms. Rowland has expertise in mentoring new teachers and administrators. She has served on multiple district and state level committees, including curriculum, technology, substance use, gifted and talented, High Schools That Work, attendance, as well as having worked with the State Department of Education Director of Student Assessment and Director of School Improvement.

Headmaster Rowland is married and has one daughter and two grandchildren. Welcome Ms. Rowland!
Report Cards for the third nine weeks will be sent home with scholars on Friday March 13. If you do not receive a report card, contact either the middle school (947-6273) or high school office (947-6274).
ART & CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL
The ASTEC Art and Chocolate Festival is Thursday March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the commons area of Shepherd Mall Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. A ticket gives you 10 chocolate tastings. Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction for gift baskets and student art pieces.  

Please park on the south side of the mall (Shepherd Center) and enter through Entrance C.
The ASTEC Robotics Club is competing in the Oklahoma First Robotics Competition
March 12-14 at the Cox Convention Center.
WAY TO GO MS. WALKER!
Congratulations to Ms. Karen Walker, ASTEC Sixth Grade Science teacher, for being recognized by Starbase as their 2020 Outstanding Member and by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence as a state mentor.
 
ASTEC Middle School scholars participate in the after school Starbase program, sponsored by Ms. Walker, Mr. Proter and Ms. Pacione. Starbase is a STEM program sponsored by the Department of Defense.
MS CHOIR IS EXCELLENT
The Middle School Choir attended the district music contest on March 6, They received EXCELLENT ratings on their prepared pieces. The scholars had a great time and the Singing Comets represented ASTEC well!
CONGRATULATIONS MS. DEAL!
ASTEC Biology Teacher, Ms. Kelsey Deal, was selected as an Outstanding Educator, and will be recognized March 27 during a ceremony at the Oklahoma School for Science and Math. Ms. Deal was nominated by a former student for this prestigious honor, because of the impact she had on that student’s love of science. Congratulations Ms. Deal!
SOCCER KICKOFF
March 5, the Middle School Boys and Girls Soccer teams played their first games against Crooked Oak Middle School. We're wishing all our players a great season!
OPEN HOUSE WAS AMAZING!
APPLY TO ATTEND NEW ELEMENTARY
On March 2, ASTEC held a Get Acquainted Orientation for families interested in having their children attend our new elementary school in the fall of this year. Parents and their children from grades pre-k through 5th grade attended.

The turnout was phenomenal and the children were so well behaved. After a presentation by school administrators and introductions to the administrators, parents were given the opportunity to ask questions.

 It's still not too late to apply for next year!

Join us at 7 p.m. on April 2 and 3 in the ASTEC Auditorium for the musical production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!”

Tickets can be purchased at the door; admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
It’s time for ASTEC Cheer’s Mixed Bag Fundraiser!

All proceeds will be used to help send the cheer squad to camp this summer.

SPRING CONCERT
ASTEC scholars and families are invited to attend the Spring Concert at 7 p.m., April 30 in the ASTEC Auditorium.

Tickets are $1 for students and $3 for adults and can be purchased at the door. 
ENROLLMENT FOR 2020-2021
SCHOOL YEAR NOW OPEN
ASTEC Charter Schools is accepting students for grades Pre-K-12 for the 2020-21 school year. You may enter your information for the ASTEC lottery online through the Smart Choice Application at https://oneappok.com/login if you are not not a current student or the sibling of a current student.

You may also complete the Lottery Information Form at the ASTEC Middle School office at the far east entrance of the Shepherd Complex located at 2401 NW 23rd Street in Oklahoma City, and ASTEC will enter your information in the Smart Choice Application for the lottery. 

The lottery will be held on April 1, 2020, during the day. You do not have to be present for the lottery. You will be notified of acceptance after the lottery.

Families facing a difficult financial time, may contact their school counselor for a waiver for activity fees or if they are in need of school supplies. Help is available.

Parking permits are available for the 2019-2020 school year. Get yours for $10 from any Student Council member!
