After an extensive search, ASTEC Charter School is proud to announce the hiring of Ms. Michelle Rowland as Headmaster. Ms. Rowland brings a wealth of experience to ASTEC. She spent twenty-three years at Putnam City Schools serving as an administrator.
At Putnam City North High School, Ms. Rowland was awarded “The Golden Apple,” which is Putnam City’s highest honor bestowed upon faculty and staff. During her tenure there, she implemented an impactful advisory program to help a school of 2,300+ students at the height of enrollment feel like a smaller learning community. She also created a freshman academy with peer mentors and mediators and a “Be the Change” club, a credit recovery program, tutorial, academic support groups, and an 8th grade Open House and Orientation program to assist students’ transition into high school.
Ms. Rowland earned the Academy “Fellow” designation for completion of the CCOSA Principal’s Leadership Academy. She was a finalist for the CCOSA Assistant Principal of the Year.
Ms. Rowland has expertise in mentoring new teachers and administrators. She has served on multiple district and state level committees, including curriculum, technology, substance use, gifted and talented, High Schools That Work, attendance, as well as having worked with the State Department of Education Director of Student Assessment and Director of School Improvement.
Headmaster Rowland is married and has one daughter and two grandchildren. Welcome Ms. Rowland!
