"Loving the Questions"

From Rev. Lee Ann
A couple of years ago, a guest was scheduled to speak during worship; a guest who because of an emergency had no choice but to cancel at the last minute, leaving me without a sermon on a Sunday morning! Yikes.

Out of desperation, we tried something new. Congregants were invited to write on an index card a question they wanted me to address. I wasn’t sure if folks would respond or not. With some anxiety, I considered having to vamp for 20 minutes…

Turns out, there was a great deal of interest. When they were passed in, I suddenly held a stack of cards in my hand, far more than could be addressed in one service. The questions were great! Diverse, thought-provoking, and sincere. I didn’t answer the questions really. They were not the sort of questions with one answer, but I offered my responses. It turned out to be a great experience and I’ve been asked a few times to do it again.

So, back by popular demand, this Sunday will be about creating a sacred space for questioning. It starts with taking a moment to consider what your questions are. That’s a key step. Then, you can pick one to write down and pursue a bit. Those two steps are far more important than whatever my response happens to be. I may miss the mark for you or hit the nail on the head. The real value is your personal exploration and growth.

Come, let’s live and love our questions – together!
Rev. Lee Ann

P.S. I think we’ll play this in the background…

Our Online Bulletin

One way to give back to the church is by using our online bulletin each Sunday. As more folks have begun using it, we've been able to decrease our paper bulletins by 40 per week--that's about 80 pages of 11 x 17 paper and over half a ream of paper monthly.

Our password is welcome! , and you can access the online bulletin in three ways:

  • Go to www.bulletin.fortworthucc.org and click on HTML or PDF format;
  • Go to our website (fortworthucc.org) and click on "Worship," then "Bulletin"; or
  • Scroll down in The Comma to "FCC on Social Media" and click on the Sunday bulletin link.

It's as simple as that, and it's one way to help make a difference!
