This Sunday, our Unexpected Friendships series continues as we follow Ruth into the fields of Bethlehem. At first glance, the meeting between Ruth and Boaz seems like an ordinary moment, but we'll discover how God often works through everyday acts of kindness, generosity, and welcome. Together, we'll reflect on what it means to trust God's quiet faithfulness, even when we can't yet see the bigger picture.
To accompany this series, we've created a guided prayer booklet inspired by the story of Ruth. As we worship through this series, we invite you to use it to pray for refugees, immigrants, and our neighbors, while asking God how we might faithfully partner with Refugee Hope Partners. The guide reminds us that, like Ruth, God welcomes the stranger and often works through those who are overlooked.
We hope you'll join us this Sunday as we worship together, grow in faith, and discover God's presence in the ordinary moments of life.

As part of our ongoing Unexpected Friendships journey, the Immigration Team will be offering a four-week Wednesday night class this September as one of the church's Wednesday Night Bible Study options.
Beginning Wednesday, September 16, and continuing through October 7, the class will meet from 6:30–7:30 p.m. following Wednesday Night Dinner. Each session will be led by a member of the HBUMC Immigration Team and will explore a different aspect of immigration, including:
- The history of immigration in the United States
- The biblical call to welcome the stranger
- The perspective of a U.S. immigrant
- Current immigration policy and the challenges facing immigrants today
This class is designed to be non-partisan and discussion-oriented. Our goal is not to advocate for a particular political viewpoint, but to better understand the experiences of our immigrant neighbors, explore what Scripture has to say about welcoming the stranger, and engage thoughtfully with a complex topic through the lens of our faith.
| Join us on Tuesday, September 15, from 4:15–6:00pm as we partner with Refugee Hope Partners to encourage elementary school students through after-school homework help. Whether you're helping with reading, math, or simply offering encouragement, you'll have the opportunity to build relationships and make a meaningful impact in a child's life. Sign up today! | |

Join Pastor Lindsey virtually on Wednesdays at noon during July and August for a guided Examen prayer gathering. The Examen is a simple contemplative prayer practice that helps us reflect on where we have noticed God’s presence and invitation in our daily lives.
No prep needed - there’s nothing to read, bring, or study ahead of time. Simply log in and be guided through a gentle time of prayer and reflection. Each gathering will last approximately 15-30 minutes, making it easy to participate even on a busy day. Whether you’ve been practicing the Examen for years or you’ve never heard of it before, you’re invited to join us!
The virtual format makes it easy to participate from your lunch break, while traveling this summer, or wherever you may be. Attend as you’re able; you can join any week without needing to attend them all.

"......but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
Gracious God, you have made me a golden eagle to fly. In so many ways, however, I still live as a chicken, unaware of the heights and the richness to which you have called me. Fill me Holy Spirit. Set me free to be the unique person the Lord Jesus has created me to be. In Jesus' name, amen.
