Outreach Spotlight: Meals on Wheels

Through your generosity, Hayes Barton United Methodist Church is able to support Meals on Wheels, a vital ministry providing nutritious meals and companionship to homebound adults in our community. Are you a voracious reader? Do you find beauty and mystery in short stories? Join Pastor Sarah on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Oct. 15 – Nov. 12 (except Oct. 29) in the Parlor, as we discuss four riveting short stories. We’ll plumb them for theological connections, but we’ll also just plain appreciate their beauty. Sign up here to reserve your spot and get the first reading. On Sept. 20th the HBUMC Climate Bears (the youth team as part of our Creation Care Team) volunteered at the Victory Community Garden located at Highland Methodist Church. The youth learned about the history of the garden, sustainable practices, contributed to the garden by digging soil, spreading mulch, preparing soil for new plantings, pulling weeds, and more! The garden supplies more than 4,500 lbs of fresh produce to our community each year with donations to the Interfaith Food Shuttle for families in need.

We are collecting hygiene items for SouthLight! Click here for the Amazon registry. Place items in the bins at the Welcome Center or the Well from now through October 5, then come to church Wednesday, October 8 to assemble the hygiene kits! We'll have dinner anytime from 5-6:30; at 6:30 we'll hear from SouthLight about mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being; then we'll put together hygiene kits for clients who come through their doors. Kids can help too!
