Opportunities to Serve

Angel Tree Will be Up This Sunday!

Our Angel Tree is part of our Planting Seeds of Hope partnership with Rama Road Elementary School. The school identifies families who need some help for the holidays, then sends us the list of little angels who we will be helping have a merry Christmas. Again this year, we will be using Sign Up Genuis to pick our angels.

We will share the link with you through our weekly emails and a QR code you'll find at our tree set up in the new Mission Corner in the Gathering Place. Our Sign Up Genius will provide you with all the angels listed along with age and helpful gift suggestions. If shopping isn’t an option, you can still help by making a donation to our Angel Tree fund. Everything collected is used to help the children and families at Rama Road Elementary School. As the need grows, your support is appreciated more than ever. Thank you Sardis!

9:00 Worship AV Volunteer Sign-ups Open

We are looking for volunteers to join the AV and tech team for our 9:00 Contemporary Worship service. We need one volunteer each Sunday to help advance slides and assist with other easy AV and tech support tasks. Our Technical Arts Coordinator, John Nipe, will provide instructions and training. Click here to sign-up for a Sunday (or two)!

Volunteer in the Nursery

The nursery is open for both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services and we need your help to keep it running smoothly! We're so excited about our brand new nursery location, the former Resource Room next to the Adult Library, and hope that you'll check it out! Sign up to volunteer here! Contact Sarah Dianne Jones with any questions.

Church Life News & Announcements

Announcing New Director of Youth Ministry

The Director of Youth Ministry search committee is thrilled to announce that Betsy Kelly will be our next Director of Youth Ministry! After a long, nationwide search, we discovered that God had already placed our next youth director right in our pews, as Betsy joined Sardis in March 2022.

Betsy is coming to us from Myers Park Presbyterian where she served as the Assistant Director of CROSS Missions. She is organized and passionate about youth ministry. Kaylee Hilston, one of her references, shared this about Betsy: “She is compassionate for people, the earth, and clearly has a heart for this work. You can see the love of God working through her in all that she does.” Betsy has great ideas and is excellent at communicating them. We are excited about her warmth, her faith, and her commitment to leading a youth program that will make any teen feel welcome.

Betsy shared with us: “Growing up at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham, NC, I have been heavily involved with the Presbyterian world since I started middle school. From my primary leadership role in the Presbyterian Episcopal Campus Ministry (PECM) at App State to serving as the Assistant Director of CROSS Missions, I have had a strong commitment to creating a positive and welcoming environment for youth and young people to grow personally and spiritually. I believe that it is important to meet youth where they are and create programming that caters to their ever-changing spiritual and emotional needs, particularly in the post-Covid era.”

Betsy’s first day at Sardis will be Monday, November 14. We are very excited to see what the future holds for our youth and we know you will join us in welcoming Betsy into the Sardis Family.

With gratitude to God,

The Director of Youth Ministry search committee: Christa Sumwalt, Jim Deerkoski, Steve Coleman, Jesse Tall, Matthew Wilkinson, and Katie Harrington (staff liaison)
