Registration Open for 2022-23 Basketball Season | Sardis will once again be partnering with the Metrolina Ministries Youth Basketball League (“MMYBL”) for the 2022-2023 basketball season! Registration is open for ages 6 - 17. The registration period will be open through October 31 with practices beginning the first week of November, and the first games are scheduled for the first weekend after Thanksgiving, running through February. This Sunday we will be celebrating World Communion Sunday, where we will be gathering around the table with Christians all around the world. The items you will see on our communion tables this Sunday are from our mission partners in Haiti and Kenya. We will also will have scripture readers from Haiti and Kenya. | |
Fall Food & Clothing Drive: Drive-thru Drop Off Today! | Through October 9 we will be making a big impact in our community and collecting the most needed items for Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays and Crisis Assistance. Donations can be dropped off in the donation bins in the Education Hal during this time. There will also be drive-thru donation days on September 28 and October 5 under the Sanctuary Covered Drive at 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. For the full list of items needed and Amazon wishlists, click here. | |

Joe B.'s Fall Bible Study |
Beginning today, Joe B. Martin will lead us in a study of the Book of Luke. We will use the skills we learned in his Equipped to Explore Scripture class. Same class, three different options:

We have begun a new Sunday evening programming opportunity for families for K-12th grade children and youth. We'll have a time of music, dinner, fellowship, and faith formation together! The new Sunday night schedule will be as follows:

October 4: New Midweek Bible Study |
Join us for a Bible study, led by Renda Brinson. We meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in Room 210 and on Zoom. We are taking an in-depth look at small segments of scripture of the Gospel of According to Matthew, so that in our understanding, we may know how God is calling us to apply it to our lives. The Sardis Bus Ministry Needs Drivers - No Special License Required | Become a Sardis bus driver and make a big impact in the life of our church! Sardis bus drivers mostly help on Sunday morning with picking up and dropping off members who live at Matthews Glen, but can also help with other ministries like Room In The Inn, youth, and other needs! You do not need a special license to drive a Sardis bus. Just attend our bus driver training session on Sunday, October 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sardis Parking Lot. 9:00 Worship AV Volunteer Sign-ups Open | We are looking for volunteers to join the AV and tech team for our 9:00 Contemporary Worship service. We need one volunteer each Sunday to help advance slides and assist with other easy AV and tech support tasks. Our Technical Arts Coordinator, John Nipe, will provide instructions and training. Music Ministry Poinsettia Sale Fundraiser | The Sardis Sanctuary Choir is again selling Christmas poinsettias as a fundraiser, and we are asking for your support. The plants, obtained from Kings, will be gorgeous and will make a nice holiday addition to your home or a wonderful gift to a friend. October 16 CROP Walk - Join the Team & Start Fundraising! | The Charlotte CROP Hunger Walk takes place each fall as a part of a nationwide endeavor to raise money to alleviate hunger and poverty in our local communities and overseas. The Walk is an opportunity for Charlotte residents of all ages, faiths, and circumstances to join together to demonstrate their concern for those who are poor and do not have enough food to eat, both across the globe and in our own backyard. 100% of funds raised by walkers go directly to hunger fighting agencies and people who need it most. 25% of the funds stay in Charlotte to benefit Crisis Assistance Ministry, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Loaves & Fishes/ Friendship Trays. October 18 Friendship Connection |
Friendship Connection is our fellowship group for older adults and retirees, but we invite everyone to come join us for our October meeting on Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sardis House (and on Zoom). November 1 Courageous Conversations | Save the date for our next event in our Courageous Conversations series! The Faith Formation Ministry invites you to come engage in our “End of Life Care & Conversations” program. We will hear from a Hospice professional to discuss end of life care. Rev. Katie Harrington will facilitate a discussion about end of life conversations. We will meet on Tuesday, November 1 in the Sardis House. At 6:00 p.m. we’ll meet for some social time and dessert. Our program will begin at 6:45 in person and via Zoom. Registrations will open on October 1. | |

November 5 Missions Pickleball Tournament! | Ages 12 and up are invited to join us for a Pickleball tournament on Saturday, November 5, supporting a great cause in our community! All proceeds from the tournament will benefit Supportive Housing Communities of Charlotte. SHC is a leader in Charlotte for ending homelessness. Besides pioneering the concept of providing permanent supportive housing to homeless people with disabilities, we pride ourselves on a 97% success rate of keeping our residents in stable housing.
