Dear Friends,
Cynthia Enrivo’s powerful, sustained belt at the end of Defying Gravity in Wicked is nothing short of legendary! Not to be outdone, Ariana Grande’s E6 note at the end of No One Mourns the Wicked is almost beyond comprehension. Their talent is on full display in such moments. But I’m equally, if not more impressed, by their soft tones and vocal vulnerability in numbers like I’m Not That Girl and For Good.
Maybe I’m letting my obsession with the release of Wicked: For Good tomorrow on November 21 get to me, but I can’t help compare the vocal high notes and low tones in the movie to leadership. Leadership isn’t just about the high notes. There are times when the low tones are more effective. As leaders, we need quiet, reflective moments to listen and consider what the world needs, what our teams need. We need time to explore the depths of our voice and how we want to use it for good. We need times to softly harmonize with those around us and let their voices shine louder than ours. Sometimes, we just need to listen to the music, not use our voice at all, and let our actions sing.
If the Wicked references are lost on you, I hope the analogy is not. If you’re going to see the movie this weekend, enjoy! Either way, take some time to recharge your voice and your spirit over the Thanksgiving Holiday and be sure to use it For Good!
Happy Thanksgiving and take good care.

Celebration of Color: If Herr Street Could Talk
November 22, 2025 | Susquehanna Art Museum | 5 PM - 8 PM
Susquehanna Art Museum is pleased to present If Herr Street Could Talk, the
homecoming exhibition of award-winning abstract artist and Harrisburg native, Alteronce Gumby. Featuring twenty-five works, the exhibition celebrates Gumby’s investigation of color and material. While Gumby now works in the Bronx, New York City, he grew up on Herr Street, located a few blocks from Susquehanna Art Museum. In 2004, he graduated from Harrisburg High School,
eventually making his way to Yale School of Art where he obtained an MFA in Painting and Printmaking. Gumby’s work is inspired by the history of abstract painting, color theory, and the study of the cosmos. Applying broken glass and gemstones to the surface of his paintings, Gumby explores the way color changes as light moves across his works. Reminiscent of outer space, Gumby’s
vibrant paintings invite viewers to imagine that there may be colors in the universe that haven’t been discovered yet. (Click the Graphic for Details)
