Show support for Animal Services in City's 2021 budget survey
As a result of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of San Antonio faces a
budget shortfall of approximately $110 million over the next two years. Consequently, the City has released a 2021 Budget Survey for citizens to let them know which services matter most to you!
Animal Care Services is a vital SAFCC partner. In 2019, SAFCC trappers took 1,082 cats to be fixed via
ACS' Community Cat program. Since COVID-19, when ACS shuttered its doors, SAFCC has had to utilize other clinics to TNR cats, resulting in costs up to 60% more than the normal amount we would normally spend for our subsidy program. In light of this, we are asking our supporters to take the survey and show support for Animal Services. Any cut in this area will only be to the detriment of the animals in our city.
Please click
HERE to take the survey. Survey closes on July 31, 2020.

Volunteers needed at our Petco cat habitats
Volunteers are desperately needed for our Cat Habitats at the below Petco stores:
Village at Stone Oak (23014 US-281 #107, San Antonio, TX 78258) - Help needed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You can sign up for only one day.
and
These Petco cat habitats are run only by SAFCC volunteers. The cats coming into the cubbies are approved/vetted and placed there by our fosters. There are several cubbies at each of the cat habitats that provide a great opportunity to find families for our cats and also alleviate the strain for some our cat fosters. As a volunteer, your responsibility is to keep the habitats clean, feed and play with the cats. Volunteers dedicate 1-2 hours one day a week. Petco kindly provides the space, SAFCC provides the training and supplies, but the volunteers do all the cleaning and care of the cats while they are there. If you're interested in becoming part of the team, please contact Lorraine Cantu at her email
HERE or call her at (210) 833-4295.

Online TNR class a big success
Like many organizations that are innovating because of COVID-19, SAFCC has turned to distance learning. Early in June, we introduced TNR training through YouTube. A lot of people needed training right away during kitten season, and limiting classes to 10 people was just too slow. However, on-line training is instantly available. The online TNR class has already been viewed by 95 "attendees" in 3 short weeks! The presentation is given by one of our experienced presenters, Yvonne. One recent viewer commented, "Love it. I can go to my notes or refresh by viewing the video." In addition to being necessary for new trappers, the online class can also be viewed as a refresher for people who attended a class previously. To get a link to the class (along with a current version of the class handout) see the instructions found on our SAFCC homepage. SAFCC is still holding in-person classes at our office, where you can purchase traps, t-shirts and get literature. The next class is on July 11 and requires registration. Visit our website HERE to sign up.

Cat Crisis Fund Success: from injured to adopted
This is the story of Mylo, who showed up to a feeder's colony with pus dripping from the base of his tail from a severely infected wound, along with fleas and mites. The feeder called our Helpline who connected her with Callaghan Road Animal Hospital and, using our Cat Crisis Fund, received the care he needed to get well. Because of his friendly disposition, Mylo was accepted into our Community Cat Adoption Program after a negative combo test and a few days of boarding. Mylo's story is truly a transformative one as he went from injured to adopted, all in less than two weeks!
Mylo's great purrsonality won someone over and he was adopted by a wonderful woman and living the good life as an indoor cat. We are so grateful for our programs like our Helpline,
Cat Crisis Fund
and our
Community Cat Adoption Program
that give these wonderful cats the life they deserve!

First adoption event of the season a success
Our Community Cat Adoption Program fosters held a successful adoption event on June 20 where 7 kittens went to their forever homes! We are in the process of figuring out the frequency of future adoption events so stay tuned!
Our CCAP fosters currently have 300+ cats in our care which can stress the program's financing and require our small foster/adoption program to close intake. If you'd like to view our adoptable cats, please visit HERE.

SAFCC Cat of the Month: Karma
Karma came to SAFCC after his owner unfortunately went blind and moved to a nursing facility where she could not take or care for him. Karma is 4 years old and weighs in at 15 pounds of solid love bug. He loves to sit with you and keep you company whether you're working or relaxing. Karma is a man of few words but does chat when he is excited for something. He is not very playful, preferring to lounge and cuddle his days away but can sometimes be tempted by a string when he's in the mood. Karma is looking for his second chance at a forever home.
If you are interested in Karma, please email her foster mom HERE
or call (210) 438-3156.
