There is a lot going on in the city this summer! The season started with a very successful Unity Days and the largest Saturday night attendance we have seen. The event culminated with amazing fireworks on Saturday night, and the parade on Sunday. Unity Days also was the place where many saw the new city logo for the first time. T-shirts emblazoned with the new logo could be seen throughout the park all weekend. For more information on the new logo, see the press release below.
Community Partnership on Aging (CPA) is currently running a campaign to bring awareness to food insecurity in the area. Food insecurity is the lack of reliable access to affordable and nutritious food. The Step Up to the Plate Campaign aims to help CPA provide additional meals for the older adults of the CPA cities including Mayfield Heights. Every donation is tax-deductible. Please read about Step Up to the Plate below.
Efforts continue for the support of small business sustainability. Three new grants from the State of Ohio are available. Click on the link below for eligibility requirements.
Summer is filled with activity and events. Mark your calendars for the Car Cruise on July 22, the Mayor’s Golf Outing on July 23, and First Responder’s Night on August 6. Be sure to join in on the fun!
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable July!

From Parks & Recreation
Unity Days was held June 25 - 27. It was great to see so many people come out for rides, food, fireworks, and the parade. Highlights of the weekend included:
- Friday night music from Boaterhead had people dancing and singing along with the band.
- Saturday evening attendance was one of the largest we have seen and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable time. The night was capped off with a great fireworks show.
- Sunday saw a packed parade route. Thank you to the parade units who weathered the heat. Unfortunately, the rain cut short our Sunday event by midafternoon.
The results of our Grand Prize raffle drawing were:
-
Gail Gray- 3rd Place prize of the Yeti Cooler.
-
Marie Cinadr- 2nd Place prize of $1,000.
-
Karen Canitia- 1st Place prize of $3,000.
Thank you to all of the employees, volunteers, and sponsors who worked to make this huge event possible. We could not have held this Unity Days without their help, hard work, dedication, and generosity.

From the Fire Department
Aluminum Cans for Burned Children (ACBC):
Mayfield Heights will soon join 85 other communities as a drop-off location for aluminum cans to support the aluminum cans for burned children (ACBC). ACBC also supports programs that create dignity, community, and opportunity for childhood burn survivors. Partnering with area fire stations and the MetroHealth Burn Care Center, ACBC sponsors weekend camps as well as other programs to meet the everyday needs of these children and their families. ACBC works with Northeast Ohio fire departments, schools, and community organizations to teach more than 3,000 children annually not only how to prevent fires but how to respond if one breaks out.
The Mayfield Heights aluminum can drop-off area will be located in the rear parking lot of City Hall. Simply place your bagged cans inside the ACBC container. No other recycling besides aluminum cans will be accepted.

From the Police Department
New Patrol Officers
Two new patrol officers were sworn in on June 7 by Mayor DiCicco. They come with over ten years of combined experience from other agencies. The Police Department is confident the new officers will provide exceptional service to the community! These new officers were hired due to the retirement of several officers including Sgt. Richard Orcutt who has served for 32 years! Sgt. Orcutt always has a positive attitude, and his “dad” jokes will be missed!
First Responder Night
First Responder Night will take place on August 6 in City Park's south side. There will be "Touch a Truck" featuring several city vehicles along with food and entertainment! This event is a great family evening and an opportunity for residents to meet their first responders including police officers and firefighters. Look for details on the city and police department social media pages.

Citizens Police Academy
The police department is accepting applications to Citizens Police Academy which is tentatively scheduled for January 2022. The academy is open to residents and individuals who work in the City of Mayfield Heights. This is a great opportunity to learn about each division within the police department and to meet your local police. Only a limited number of applicants will be admitted so please register early. For more information, visit the police department webpage.
Motor Vehicle Thefts
Motor Vehicle thefts are on the rise in Northeast Ohio and Mayfield Heights had three occurrences in June. In each case, the keys were left inside of the vehicle and the vehicles were unlocked. Please remember to remove valuables and lock your vehicle's doors!
OVI Task Force
The Police Department will schedule additional officers throughout the summer specifically to enforce operating under the influence (OVI) violations. Drive sober or get pulled over! This campaign is funded by a grant from the Cuyahoga County DUI Task Force.

From Community Partnership on Aging
The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to rethink our personal security on many levels. We took action to protect ourselves and our families. But what about those who are less fortunate? What about those who do not have the resources? What about those who don’t have a family? Who will protect them?
In 2020, Community Partnership on Aging meal usage by older adults increased 366%, signaling a need and desire for healthy, affordable, and safe meal options for older adults. Additionally, this challenged us to think: COULD we serve more? ARE we serving every older adult that we can? How can our meals help those who might fall through the cracks?
As we began our research and started talking about a plan, the Heights-Hillcrest Regional Chamber of Commerce reached out to us to help. Recognizing that “healthy communities mean healthy businesses,” HRCC stepped up to partner with CPA for a fundraising campaign, aptly titled, Step Up to the Plate. The Step Up to the Plate Campaign aims to help CPA provide additional meals for the older adults of the cities we serve Highland Heights, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Richmond Heights, and South Euclid. Every donation is 100% tax-deductible. For more information or to donate, see the Community Partnership on Aging website.
