From My Desk to Your Inbox

There is a lot to look forward to in the city this month, starting with the first Movie in the Park this Friday, June 4, and culminating with Unity Days Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 27. It is exciting to be able to bring back our special events this year. Thank you to our Parks & Recreation Department for planning a fantastic calendar of events this summer where residents will be able to enjoy themselves.

We are moving along with the architect selection for Phase I of the new pool and park plan. We hope to have a selection soon, Look for updates on our social media platforms and the city’s website. You can find links to all of them below.

Mark your calendar for the next Neighborhood Watch meeting Tuesday, June 22 in Council Chambers. MHPD Community Operations officers will be reporting on updates and giving safety tips to ensure a safe summer is had by all. Neighborhood Watch continues to grow, and it is nice to see so many residents involved in keeping our city safe.

As you walk or drive around town this month, take notice of the Hometown Hero banners lining Mayfield Road and now SOM Center Road. This year, we added 15 new banners. Thank you to the families who participate in this wonderful program to honor our brave men and women who served, or are currently serving our country.

Have a great June!

Spring & Summer Energy
Savings Tips
With the warm weather approaching, here are some summer energy-saving tips from the U.S. Department of Energy to keep your cooling costs in control.

1. Use your windows to keep heat out by installing window coverings.
2. Operate your thermostat efficiently, setting it at an appropriate level.
3.  Remember that fans cool people, not rooms so turn them off when not in the room.
4. Schedule regular maintenance on your cooling system to keep it running efficiently.
5. Lower your water heating costs and prevent scalding by lowering your water heater setting to no more than 120 degrees.

Corporal Gary Neiberlein has retired from the Mayfield Heights Police Department after 28 years of service. During his career, Corporal Neiberlein served in many capacities including a defensive tactics instructor, a SPAN SWAT team member, an original member of the Mayfield Heights Honor Guard, and as a school resource officer. Corporal Neiberlein was an exemplary officer who contributed to the training and development of new officers while serving as a field training officer to new recruits.

New Officer Sworn in
Officer Todd Hanley was sworn in on May 24. Officer Hanley served for ten years with another Cuyahoga County Agency prior to applying to Mayfield Heights.
