Escambia Children’s Trust Introduces CARE Grants to Strengthen Local Communities

Throughout the CARE framework, community organizations can apply for grants of up to $50,000 annually to address critical issues across four focus areas: Community, Access, Resilience, and Empowerment. These mini-grants are part of ECT’s mission to create a brighter, healthier future for Escambia County by fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and meaningful change.

Community Engagement and Outreach grants are available options to provide community partners with an opportunity to seek funding for existing programs, advocacy efforts, or events/activities that support the children and families in Escambia County.

This CARE framework for community grants can be applied across various sectors, from health and education to environmental sustainability and orchestrating transformative outcomes that benefit the future of our community. By focusing on these core areas, the mini-grant, one-time funding options can help foster more inclusive, resilient, and empowered communities.

Purpose: Strengthen and support local communities by fostering unity and collaboration.

Areas of Focus:

- Programs that promote community engagement, civic participation, and positive relationships with law enforcement

- Support for local groups organizing community events centered around the betterment of children and family engagement

- Building a sense of community through neighborhood engagement opportunities

2. Access

Purpose: Increase access to essential services, resources, and opportunities for underserved or marginalized populations.

Areas of Focus:

- Initiatives that enhance existing program access to healthcare, education, and physical/safety factors

- Funding for projects that build or enhance accessible transportation and technology for youth in vital local programming

- Enhancing existing community programs, and/or collaborative projects that provide direct services to children and young people

- Offer participant performance incentives to address academic performance, chronic absenteeism/truancy, or increase positive behavior

3. Resilience

Purpose: Build resilience in communities to withstand social, economic, and environmental challenges.

Areas of Focus:

- Projects focused on sustainable community practices, which may include evidence-based practices, evidence informed practices or innovative programming that supports a targeted population

- Support projects that focus on mental wellness, domestic violence awareness, human trafficking, reduction in youth delinquency and/or promote resiliency

4. Empowerment

Purpose: Empower individuals and communities to take control of their own futures.

Areas of Focus:

- Initiatives that provide leadership training, youth mentorship, or capacity-building opportunities

- Funding for advocacy groups or initiatives that promote the safety and well-being of children and youth in the community

- Supporting programs that encourage youth engagement, community violence prevention activities, and/or the development of collaboratives providing mentorship through lived experiences

By addressing critical issues through targeted funding in Community, Access, Resilience, and Empowerment, these grants empower local organizations to create lasting change. Whether it’s enhancing access to essential resources or promoting leadership and advocacy, the CARE grants offer a unique opportunity to transform the future for children and families in Escambia County.

Community Collaboration Corner

As we journey toward a new season, we must reflect on the fun, fellowship, and fortune we experienced in our Fall months!  From trick or treats to good eats, and transportation solutions to communities in recovery, ECT was in the center of it all!  Once again, it has been proven that collaboration and cooperation lead to motivation!  The continuous conversations have yielded optimal results for the deserving children and families of Escambia County!

Community Violence Focus Group

Many concerned citizens in the county have reached out to ECT regarding the plague of violence we experienced, not only in the out-of-school months, but persistently throughout the year. The pleas for change and immediate action did not fall on deaf ears. ECT invited the individuals who spoke at our meetings, ECT funded organizations who were working in youth mental health, middle and high school representatives from the school district, ECSO, PPD and other non-profit leaders ECT had met with regarding efforts to support youth in afterschool programming but were not currently funded by ECT. All participants agreed to transition from conversations to implementing the following proposed Action Steps:

·                Gun Round Up with monetary incentive

·                Coalition of individuals with lived experiences

·                Dispose of cell phones in school settings (restrict access)

·                Parent Education – screening/limiting technology access

·                Get involved, “Get hands dirty”

·                Engage Community

·                Reach out to partners

·                Tie community sports to academics

·                Involving parents in actions, activities, students/participant accountability

All participants left encouraged and validated, as there are true members in the community ready and willing to become “Change Agents,” organizing collectively for solutions!

Boys and Girls Club and Century Trunk or Treat Events

Chocolate, lollipops, festive costumes and more! It was a “treat” to visit with our partners, network with families, and share the numerous resources ECT offers. Children filled their bags with goodies and our team distributed information about free services offered throughout the county. Operation Trunk or Treat was an indulgence for kids of all ages!

Parade of Providers: Winning Strategies and Techniques for Program Success

This was part two in a series of four, to equip ECT providers with innovative practices to enhance programming and outreach efforts. It is our vision to provide robust services that will have a positive impact on the community. With the ever-changing needs of children and unique family dynamics, professional preparation and results-oriented motivation are essential to moving the needle with today’s youth. Our dedicated friends from SEDNET provided our team with tiered interventions, assisted with the understanding and purpose of behaviors, as well as recognizing compassion fatigue. The helpful strategies acquired from this training opportunity were well received and appreciated by everyone in attendance!

Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast: Brunchfest

Our Communications Coordinator, Michael Moore had the pleasure of being a judge for the 4th annual Brunchfest benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast. Congratulations to all of the winners, and the participants that made this wonderful, delicious event possible!

Escambia County Area Transit: Try Transit Tuesday

Thank you to Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) for having us at Try Transit Tuesday! We were able to share the valuable resources funded by Escambia Children’s Trust to many citizens of Escambia County, and connect families to essential programs and services that benefit our community.
