Fulton County Redistricting Map Challenged
Feb. 7, 2022
“Local redistricting is controversial, I don’t care which way you look at it.

"Gwinnett County is upset. Cobb County is upset. Fulton County is upset….This is a contentious part of politics, and, hopefully, we let the voice of the people be heard.” – GA House Rep. Mesha Mainor, Dist. 56

“The smear campaign against Rep. Mainor must stop. The political terrorist tactics against Commissioner Khadijah must stop. It is unconscionable that elected officials would pick hyper-partisanship to disenfranchise communities. These communities have been together, they know each other, they live for each other. Drawing a line down the middle of the street, where one Commissioner is on one side, and another Commissioner is on the other side is not only illegal – it is unconscionable.

“To have this Commissioner[Khadijah] be forced to run against another Commissioner – just to keep her honor, integrity, and respect intact – that is unconscionable….

“This process that is currently being used, cuts her [Comm. Khadijah] out of the process, cuts the neighborhood leaders out of the process, cuts the community leaders out of the process, cuts the faith leaders out of the process, cuts the small business leaders out of the process.

"That’s not democracy – that’s tyranny.” – Al Bartell

“I stand here today representing 200,000 voters who have been disenfranchised. If we go by the 2010 Census, we are breaking the law. We must go by the 2020 Census map….so we won’t be facing a federal lawsuit over civil rights violations. That’s what this is all about. I stand here today together with Rep. Mainor and community members from one end of Fulton County to the other, to say, “Let’s be fair. Make the process fair.”
– Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman
 Dist. 6, South Fulton
“It is purposely done – and it’s purposefully done by the two political parties who want to retain control. Those two political parties are clear that the way Georgia goes, is the way the national election goes – and the way Fulton County goes, dictates a big part of that.

“This is a hyper-media market in metro[Atlanta]. Nobody’s more powerful in that media market – than South Fulton….

“We – as people who understand the process – and understand public engagement – we have to take this to the community. They don’t know. They’re just people going about their everyday lives. It is upon us to bring awareness to them… So, we’re going to use roundtable discussions, community gatherings, summits and conferences to get this out there to them. That way they’re empowered to speak up. And when the community speaks up, with the power of the Almighty standing behind them, then they can make the difference.

“So we want to send this communication: She’s not alone[Commissioner Khadijah/Rep. Mainor]. If they can do this in Fulton County, they can do this in the 159 counties of Georgia. It’s not just Fulton County communities. It’s the entire neighborhood-community-faith-small business leaders’ communities across Georgia.

“We will not go quietly into the night. We will not sit back, and let this process go forth. We’re present now – and we promise to be present in the future.

“That is the communication of neighborhood, community, faith, and small business leaders all across the state of Georgia, the Southeast region of the nation, and the United States of America.” – Al Bartell, Community Representative
