Everything You Need to Know About the Town Hall Meetings This Month

As we move forward in exploring the proposed new clubhouse project, we invite all members to take part in one of our upcoming Town Hall Meetings. These sessions will provide a comprehensive presentation of the proposal, an opportunity to ask questions, and a guided 3D computer‑modeled walk‑through of the envisioned spaces. Your participation and feedback are essential as we look toward the future of our Club.

At this time, the Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 10th at 2:00 PM is FULL. Please RSVP below for Thursday, March 12th at 6:00 PM.

To help us plan accordingly, please register by selecting the appropriate radio button below, or by replying to this email.

Each recipient must register individually so we can ensure adequate space. This is not a voting meeting—the member vote is expected to take place at a later date, following these presentations.

We encourage you to attend and be part of this important step in shaping the future of Clearwater Yacht Club.

Compass Points

Super Bowl Watch Party

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable Super Bowl Watch Party at CYC, where members enjoyed every play, loaded up on game‑day favorites, grabbed their squares, and tried their luck in our big raffle. A huge congratulations to Jen Howard & Tim Meyer, who dominated the night by winning the TV raffle, the gift basket, and the major cash prize, along with many other lucky winners throughout the event. We’re grateful to all who attended and helped make this year’s celebration such a fun and spirited success.

Celebration of Yachting

Clearwater Yacht Club’s Celebration of Yachting brought members, volunteers, and special guests together on February 11 for an evening honoring tradition, community, and the spirit of the sport. Attendees enjoyed racing program updates, recognition of our 2025 Race Committee volunteers, and great conversation over light appetizers. Guest speaker Neil Harvey captivated the room with stories from iconic ocean races and insights from his decades in the marine world. We were also pleased to welcome Mateo Rodriguez of Clearwater Community Sailing Center and Carol Elwood and Jim Davis of DBC, who joined us to share updates on collaborative regattas and volunteer opportunities. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this celebration such a meaningful night for our yachting community.

Mardi Gras Party

Clearwater Yacht Club brought the spirit of New Orleans to the Tiki Deck with a festive Mardi Gras celebration full of Cajun flavors, $10 cocktails, and nonstop music. Members enjoyed everything from gumbo and grilled oysters to Hurricanes and Old Fashioneds while the DJ kept the party rolling. The highlight of the night was the complimentary King Cake—congratulations to our Mardi Gras Queen, who found the baby Jesus and earned a free cocktail! Thanks to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable Tuesday night on the deck!

Ladies Luncheon Sponsored by the Gulls

The Ladies Luncheon sponsored by the Gulls brought together a wonderful mix of familiar faces and new friends for an afternoon of connection, laughter, and lively conversation. Guest speaker Chris Cato of Fox13 Tampa Bay returned by popular demand and once again captivated the room with his witty presentation, “Florida Tonight: Florida’s Favorite New News Show—That Really Isn’t News.” His blend of humor, storytelling, and “Only in Florida” moments had guests smiling throughout, followed by an engaging Q&A. It was a memorable gathering that highlighted the spirit of community these luncheons are known for.

CYC Winter Olympics

The first‑ever CYC Winter Olympic Games brought huge energy to the Tiki Deck and Dry Dock as member teams competed across six spirited events, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. Teams representing Holland, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany, the Fireballers, the Tiki Torch “B‑Dock Nation” crews, and the Hastings team battled for the fastest overall time and a spot on the medal stand. After an afternoon of friendly rivalry and plenty of laughs, the top teams claimed their gold, silver, and bronze honors in true Olympic style. Spectators also jumped into the action with bonus games including Table Top Curling, Golf Chipping, Darts/Archery, and Giant Tic Tac Toe. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated in support of the Never Say Never Pirate Camp, as well as to our generous event sponsors, WCFIS and MarineMax Clearwater, for helping make this inaugural event such a success.

From CYC to the Court: Malakeigh’s Senior Night

A great family moment occurred on Friday, January 30th at Dunedin High School. Malakeigh, a well-regarded busser at CYC, was playing his last home game as a star point guard for his high school in Dunedin.

Before the start of the game, graduating seniors were honored by the fans as their families accompanied them onto the court. Proud mom Ariel and her daughter Marley escorted Malakeigh onto the court.

Ariel, CYC’s lead bartender and friend to all, was the proudest mom in the gym. Ariel noted that it is not easy being a single mom with a full-time job but that this evening along with other family special moments make it all worthwhile.

Not a Bad Day for Love

By Karen Watson

Clearwater cruisers began their first yachting weekend of the year with the one-two punch of combining Friday the 13th with Valentine’s weekend. What could possibly go wrong? Absolutely nothing. Too much fun to be had for lovers’ spats or foggy seas. Plus, Marina Jack’s is always a safe harbor for special fun.

Jill and Drew Clark took the helm and steered the crew into a boatload of fun the whole weekend beginning with Docktails on Jill’s Dream with lots of pink and red to celebrate Valentine’s Day early. This was followed by dinner at Marina Jack’s restaurant, complete with a stop at the piano bar, which is always a winner.

Saturday morning, the bargain hunters visited The Foxy Lady in St. Armand’s Circle for deals followed by a yummy lunch at Tommy Bahama. Others less inclined to shop had cocktails waterside at O’Leary’s Tiki. Lovers and others reconvened for dinner the award-winning Duval’s Fresh Local Seafood.

Valentine’s dinner tantalized the appetite with a luscious four-course dinner.

The next day rewarded early risers with doughnuts and coffee before capping off a delightful weekend.

Bow Chasers

The Clearwater Prams (aka little sailboats) are donning new sails thanks to the Yachting Committee. Many thanks to Ned Covell, Willis Gray and Bow Chasers; Cathy McNally, Anita Cafferty and Anne Grace for retiring the old sails and rigging the new ones! A well-tuned work party! Next project to get the Prams ready for the April 27th Rainbow Regatta will be replacing lines and updating flotation devices.

In lieu of the Annual Soup Cruise this year, a gathering of Bow Chaser ladies had a great evening in the CYC dining room great food, conversation, laughs and comradery.

A well deserved ‘Shout Out’ to the Dunedin Windlasses! On February 17th, The Tampa Bay Times ran a great article on the long running women’s sailing program. CYC members, Cathy McNally, Karen Watson and Kate Wall sail with the Windlasses and the CYC Bow Chasers.

Rainbow Regatta

The Bow Chasers will host the annual FWSA Rainbow Regatta with the Dunedin Windlasses out of the Clear Community Sailing Center (CCSC) on Gulf Blvd. This Regatta hosts both Sunfish and Opti/Pram classes and up to 50 entrants.

If you are interested in sailing, the sailing Bow Chasers meet on Tuesdays at 9:15am at CYC, west side, where the prams (dinghy sailboats) are kept neatly in the rack. Come on down and see what we are all about as we rig and sail the historic prams designed specifically for Clearwater by Clark Mills circa 1948.

As a member of CYC you are also members of the CCSC (Clearwater Community Sailing Center) on Gulf Blvd- across from Sand Key Park. If you are new to sailing or just need a brush-up on your skills, you can make arrangements with CCSC. They are very accommodating and willing to teach their skill.

We’re always looking to Mother Nature to provide us with perfect pram sailing weather.

Book Club

Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Board Room.

In March, members will gather to discuss The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali.

All CYC members and their guests are welcome to participate. For more information or to get involved, email PC Curtis Wold at woldca@gmail.com.
