Increasing Rigor in the Whitnall School District

Please join us for our next Parent Learning Academy on Thursday, December 6th. Based on input and current events in our schools, our main topic will be “Increasing Rigor in the Whitnall School District.” We will look at current data, data trends, and action plans. As always, if you have questions that fall outside of this topic, feel free to reach out to teachers or administrators for further discussion.
Friday, December 21
Due to a necessary inservice day for WHS teachers, we will not be holding classes for WHS students on Friday, December 21.  All other students will have a regularly scheduled day of school on this day.

HCL Updates
The Village Tree Lighting event is on Saturday, December 1 and features the Whitnall Middle School Band, with help from the Whitnall Honor Society students. See attached flyer for more information.

Final Week of the Semester
The final week of the semester will be full days of school. There will be no modified schedule or early release during the week of January 14th. A complete schedule with the close of semester coursework will be provided shortly.
2018 WHS Christmas Ornament
Looking for a unique holiday gift? Would you like to show support for your school? The Whitnall High School Athletic Department has the right item to meet your school spirit and holiday needs! For only $15, you can order an unbreakable Whitnall Falcon ornament and help your favorite team raise money to benefit the student athletes. Cash or checks will be accepted at the WHS Athletic Office upon the pick up of your ornament(s). We will be accepting orders from November 19th until December 10th. Best Buddies
Join us for a night to learn all about Best Buddies! We are hosting a parent/student info session about the new club. Come meet the advisors, ask questions, and find out how you can become involved.

Juniors: Civics Exam
Next week Wednesday, Juniors will be taking the state-mandated civics exam. Students must pass this exam with a 65% or better in order to receive their diploma. Students who do not pass as Juniors will be allowed additional attempts their Senior year. Please make sure that your student has accessed the study materials and brings their Chromebook to school, fully charged, on Wednesday. To access the student materials, students need to add the Civics Google Classroom using the code: 0ej0m5v. For more information on the civics exam, please visit the DPI Civics Exam Information page.

New Toy Drive & Winter Dance
WMS Student Council is supporting a new toy drive December 12, 13, and 14. Drop off a new toy during these days and get a discount on the winter dance! The WMS Winter Dance is December 12, 13, and 14 - with more information to come!
Winter Sports
Just a reminder that our winter sports season has started! Boys basketball, wrestling, and our dance team are in full swing! At each home game, our WMS PTO has a concession stand for those that need a quick snack!

Upcoming PTO Events
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 13 at 7 PM in the EES Library. All are welcome to attend. In addition, the PTO will be sponsoring a fundraiser night at the West Allis Qdoba on Tuesday, December 18th from 5 - 9 PM. Watch your email for more information. The next box top prize drawing is scheduled for Thursday, December 20th. Thanks for saving and sending in those box tops!
Winter Concerts
Mark your calendars for our Grade 2 and 3 concerts. The students have been working hard and are looking forward to performing for family and friends. Grade 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19 and Grade 3 is Thursday, December 20th. Both concerts will be at 6 PM in Edgerton’s Main Gym.
Lost and Found
There are currently many unlabeled articles of clothing, lunch boxes/bags, water bottles, and other items that are in our Lost and Found. If your child is missing anything, stop by and check our lost and found. All unclaimed items will be donated during winter break. In addition, please take a moment to label your child’s personal belongings with their first and last name. It will help us reunite found items with their owner.

Construction Update
Thank you for your flexibility in following the drop off and pick up plans.  Please remember to stay in your car until you reach the Safety Sidewalk. There is not a safe pedestrian crossing and therefore we aren’t permitting people to walk through the parking lot. Safety for ALL is our goal.
Winter Concerts
Winter concerts will be held the evening of Thursday, December 13. Grade 2 students will take the stage at 6 PM, with Grade 3 students performing at 6:45 PM. The concerts will be held in the Big Gym.
All Are Welcome
All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold is our December book of the month. The book focuses on acceptance and diversity. Please ask your child if they had a guest reader this month. Our guest readers are: Mrs. Anderson, HCE School Counselor, Mrs. Komas, Principal, Dr. Olson, Superintendent, Ms. Thao, School Social Worker, and Mr. Williams, Dean of Students.
