District News
Important Bussing Message
Whitnall School District has been in a consortium with Franklin School District, Greenfield School District, and Greendale School District for many years to create purchasing power in regards to our transportation services. This consortium agreed to a five year contract with First Student LLC in the spring of 2016. This is the typical length of a transportation contract across the state because of the large capital investment needed for buses.

While it is typical to see changes and fine-tuning occur in the first couple of weeks of a new school year as routes are finalized and ridership is confirmed, we, as a consortium, have seen more issues this year than what are typical. There are a number of variables occurring at First Student that may be contributing to some of the issues. Again, this is a consortium issue, and not only isolated to Whitnall School District. We have met several times as a group with First Student to discuss our concerns, and while First Student is responsive during our meetings, actions are not meeting our expectations. Concerns include a wide variance in pick up times, lack of communication on a number of issues, lack of communication when routes are running late, improper protocols, lack of co-curricular buses, etc. At Whitnall, we clearly recognize these issues and we are as frustrated and disappointed as many of our families.

With most vendors, we are simply able to not use those vendors again. However, in this case, given the logistics as well as contractual obligations we are under as a consortium, we are doing everything we can to improve First Student's transportation services. The consortium will continue to meet with First Student as well as with each other to determine next best steps moving forward for 2018-2019 and beyond.
