High school age volunteers are needed for the Children’s Hospital Respite program offered here at Whitnall High School on Saturday, November 9 from 8:15 AM to 2:00 PM.
Parents of children with special needs, who participate in the Children's Hospital Respite program, can drop off their children and their siblings for a day of free childcare. One or two high school students are matched with each child to provide fun quality childcare. Students engage children in various activities--face painting, board games, arts and crafts, ball games in the gymnasium, and watching kids movies.
The event provides much needed relief to the parents who often have difficulty finding good quality care for their child. Whitnall is thrilled to be a host site for the program and incredibly proud of the tremendous amount of volunteer support we receive from our students and the community. Each year, Whitnall receives great feedback on the quality of our student volunteers.
As a host site for the event, Whitnall High School provides the space and volunteers to help care for approximately 80-100 children. More than 100 volunteers are needed to make the day successful. Nursing students from area colleges provide supervised nursing care for the children's toileting and medical needs.
More volunteers are needed to make the event a success. A link to the registration form, which must be completed at least one week in advance of the event, can be found at
Two additional forms are needed: a confidentiality agreement & background check form. Children's Hospital does a background check on all registered volunteers.
Please complete the online registration and hand in the 2 download forms to Mrs. Callender in the counseling office (no social security number is needed on the form).
