Advanced Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments Begin July 15 - Beginning July 15, millions of families with children will begin receiving advance monthly payments as part of the expanded child tax credit authorized in the American Rescue Plan Act. Eligible families that filed 2019 or 2020 tax returns will automatically receive this credit whereas non-filers that did not claim an Economic Impact Payment must submit their information to the IRS.
 
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is hosting a webinar on July 13 at 1:00 PM EDT with key information on the child tax credit, the recently launched IRS portal, and who needs to take action to claim their money. Register here.

Barriers that Constrain the Adequacy of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Allotments, June 2021 – This research highlights the barriers that SNAP participants face when trying to achieve a healthy diet through a nationally representative survey of SNAP participants. More specifically, the study identifies the individual, household, and environmental barriers faced by SNAP participants that prevent them from having access to healthy diets; how the barriers interact; and any associations with household food insecurity.

The Impact of SNAP Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) Time Limit Reinstatement in Nine States, June 2021 – This report, published by The Urban Institute, studies the time limit reinstatement for able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) following the Great Recession. The report documents the challenges of administering ABAWD policy by analyzing administrative caseload data provided by nine States—Alabama, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Vermont.

Representatives Bacon, Bass, Langevin and Mullin Introduce Legislation to Offer Stability to Foster Youth, July 2, 2021 - Reps. Don Bacon (NE) Karen Bass (CA), Jim Langevin (RI) and Markwayne Mullin (OK) today introduced the Foster Care Stabilization Act, which seeks to improve pre-placement services for children placed in foster care, especially those in emergency situations that may lack basic supplies, like clothing or other incidentals.
