Ministry Highlights

Ebenezer Fountain

This past Sunday, the Ebenezer Fountain in the Courtyard was dedicated in loving memory of Herb and Elsie Purnell, longtime missionaries to Thailand and cherished members of San Gabriel Community Church.

Herb and Elsie faithfully encouraged us to build “Ebenezers” - reminders of God’s help and faithfulness throughout our lives.

To learn more about the Ebenezer Fountain and the legacy of Herb and Elsie, please click the button below.

The website features:

  • An explanation of the purpose and meaning of the Ebenezer Fountain
  • A brief biography of Herb and Elsie Purnell
  • Three sermons relating to Ebenezers (including a sermon preached together by Pastor Steve and Herb)
  • A heartfelt tribute written by Greg and Kathleen Parsons

A Heartfelt Thank You To Our Church Family

We were overwhelmed with all that was lavished on us at Greg's retirement celebration. Thank you for making the evening one we will always treasure. We so appreciate your love and encouragement over the years. It is such a joy and privilege to be a part of this wonderful church family. We plan to be away over the summer, but look forward to being back with you in the fall.
With much love,
Greg and Suzanne Golden

Trainor's Mission in Italy

Come to our home (very close to church) to enjoy fellowship and hear about our mission in Italy. We'll be explaining the spiritual needs of Italy and how we'll be working with a great ministry doing church planting. We'll also share our financial goals, but please come regardless of whether you plan to support us or not (or even if you already do). Our time in the US is growing short, so come see us!

Assistive Listening System Available in Sanctuary

We offer an Assistive Listening System in the Sanctuary for those that have mild to moderate hearing loss. These small devices will provide direct audio during the entire worship service and will allow you to adjust the volume to meet your individual needs. You must sit in the main center section of the sanctuary to use the system. The system is not available in the North or South chapels.

If you would like to take advantage of this new system, please stop by the sound booth.

Praise & Prayers

The last few months most of my shows presenting the Gospel by magic have been in prisons. God has been good to give us contacts who open the doors for us to get in (and out!!) of these places, to share God’s love. It has been exciting to see nearly half of the prisoners after these shows asking for New Testaments.

A couple of months ago the elders of Athens’ First Greek Evangelical Church (which has been birthing the newer church plants) decided that all the satellite churches need to become non-profit legal entities, so as to relieve the mother church’s complicated financial picture. The process is cumbersome, with all kinds of bureaucratic delays, but last week we in Agia Paraskevi (neighborhood church we’re leading) finally became an independent legal entity, with our own tax identification number.

This week we are working at opening our own bank accounts and learning all the procedures by which we have to operate. This is great progress in our becoming autonomous and we are always grateful for your prayers as we deal with these kinds of issues!

We thank God for the many who have the vision of Bible distribution. Maria has been giving out a lot of New Testaments with Psalms, and recently we took three boxes (45 copies) of New Testaments to the local Orthodox Church for the priest to distribute. What a thrill it is to see some clergy seeing the value of giving people the Word of God!

The school year at the Greek Bible College culminated with a beautiful graduation ceremony the last Saturday of May, and now the campus is hosting various groups that use our facilities, helping to augment our income to help defray the costs for students in the Greek programs.

In May we had the wonderful experience of a visit from our son Timothy and his three daughters. It was exciting to get to treat (spoil!) them a bit. Now it will be next Easter before we get to see any of the grandkids, when Becky plans on bringing her crew.

We appreciate all of you and pray for you regularly.

May God richly bless you. Love,

Bob and Maria Hill
