Joy Amidst Conflict

Friday Evening, April 26 through Saturday, April 27

In The Basement

Please join us for a sweet time of learning, worshiping our great God and fellowship.

Our Speaker will be Michelle Spansel. Michelle grew up in Southern Ohio before attending and graduating from The Master’s College with a Liberal Studies degree and a teaching credential. Michelle has been involved in education for the last 30 years. Her greatest joy has been the ministry of mothering her 7 children and serving alongside her husband as a pastor’s wife. Mark and Michelle are planting Redeemer Church in Santa Clarita and her passion is to equip women with the truth of God’s Word.

We will also have six of our own ladies from church who will be sharing their personal testimonies of finding joy during difficult times.

Mark your calendars, so you don’t miss out on the opportunity to eat, fellowship, worship and learn together!

Save the Date! Sign-ups begin this Sunday outside the Sanctuary and in Sunday School classes. Cost is $20.

In 1969, we established the W. Joseph Hemphill Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this fund is to give supplemental aid to qualified young people to help them enter into, continue with, and accelerate preparation toward a full-time Christian vocation. If you are a college or graduate student, pursuing a full-time career in ministry or missions, please contact Pastor Dave Halverson at dhalverson@sangabrielcommunity.org to request an application. Applications are due Sunday, April 14.

Bible Institute Class

Our next Bible Institute class will be "Understanding Scripture Through Arcing." This course is designed to help us follow the Biblical author’s train of thought. Each statement in a passage is represented visually by a small semicircle (“arc”), making it possible to literally see the flow of ideas in a passage. And the questions that we ask in deciding how to draw each arc help us discover the main point the author is making.

The class will be taught by Pastor Greg and offered Wednesday nights from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the Stewart Lounge for seven weeks, April 17–June 5 (no class on May 15). For more information, please contact Pastor Greg at ggolden@sangabrielcommunity.org.

There's still time to give to our Easter Offering for Global Outreach Ministries. In the past this special offering has provided funding for projects and opportunities beyond what is in our regular budget. Through your generosity, we have purchased books for the Greek Bible College library, provided funding for relief ministries in Ukraine, paid for missionary visitations, enabled missionaries to attend conferences, and many other things. You can click on the button below, pull down on the Fund menu and choose Easter Offering.

Thank you for your support and generosity,

Pastor Dave

We are now able to offer an Assistive Listening System in the Sanctuary for those that have mild to moderate hearing loss. We currently have four devices available for use and more devices can be added as needed.

These small devices will provide direct audio during the entire worship service and will allow you to adjust the volume to meet your individual needs.

You must sit in the main center section of the sanctuary to use this new system. The system is not available in the North or South chapels.

If you would like to take advantage of this new system, please stop by the soundbooth before the service.

Prayer & Praise:
How great it is to be busy in the Lord’s work and happy about it. As a matter of fact, I was recently asked to do a seminar on Loneliness and Discouragement in the Ministry, and I had a lot to share—but I’ve been asked to repeat it three times! Did it seem like I was saying that we are lonely and discouraged? Not a chance! We have learned to deal with it, as these are frequent problems within ministry.
You will soon be celebrating Easter, but the Eastern Orthodox don’t have Easter until May 5 this year. We are often asked, “Do you celebrate Easter with us, or with the Catholics?” (They don’t realize that the Orthodox are only about 12% of the world’s 2.4 billion Christians!) So right now for 40 days everyone is “fasting” and then for 40 more days everyone in Greece will be saying “Christ is Risen” and “He is Risen Indeed.” But our answer to the question of when we celebrate Easter is that we honor the Risen Lord every week! Please pray for meaningful Gospel conversations that will lead to them knowing Christ.
In a few days, it will be Game Night—which we have every last Friday of the month. These last couple of months, we have had a number of English-speaking students from the local university coming to join us in our worship. This has been a great encouragement to us, and I know they appreciate it too.
In a couple of weeks, the Bible college will be having an open day for potential students. We are concentrating this year on making contacts within the churches and ministries in the Athens area. Please pray that it would be well attended and God would draw students.
We are planning a brief visit to our children during the summer. It’s quite an itinerary, and we hope to see most of our grandchildren. It gives us something to look forward to. Please pray for safe travels and a refreshing time with family. May we form sweet and godly memories on this trip.
We pray that you will enjoy God’s presence and grace in a special way. Thank you for your prayers.
Warmest wishes,
Bob and Maria Hill

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” (Psalm 122:1)
