Celebrating the Life of Beverly Vandercook

September 21st at 2:00 p.m. | Sanctuary

Carl Vandercook and Diane Acosta would like to invite you to a Celebration of the Life of Beverly Vandercook on Saturday, September 21st at 2:00p.m. The service will be in the Sanctuary and there will be refreshments in The Basement to follow. We hope you will join us.

Ministry Expo

September 29th at 10:45 a.m. | Gym

After the Worship Service, we will have our annual Ministry Expo in the Gym.

The Ministry Expo is where all the ministries of SGCC get together to answer your questions and help you get plugged in to serve. Even if you are already serving elsewhere, there are always new ways to get involved in 2024. The Expo is also a great opportunity to keep the ministries of the church in your prayers.

If you are new at SGCC and have never signed up to serve, we’d love to connect you with leaders who can tell you more. You don’t need to be a church member in many cases, but membership classes start in October, so please consider that as well.

Tuesday Bible Study

Begins September 24 at 7:00 PM in The Basement.

It meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Book of the Week

The Moon is Always Round

by Jonathan Gibson & Joe Hox

Ages 4-8

Even young children want answers to the hard questions about God, the Bible, Jesus Christ and suffering. In The Moon Is Always Round, seminary professor and author Jonathan Gibson uses the vivid imagery of the moon to explain to children how God's goodness is always present, even when it might appear to be obscured by upsetting or difficult circumstances.

In this beautiful, two-color illustrated book, he allows readers to eavesdrop on the conversations he had with his young son in response to his sister's death. Father and son share a simple liturgy together that reminds them that, just as the moon is always round despite its different phases, so also the goodness of God is always present throughout the different phases of life, even in grief.

A section in the back of the book offers further biblical help for Christian parents and caregivers in explaining God's goodness to children and keeping their faith in Jesus. Jonny Gibson reminds children of all ages that God's goodness is present in the most difficult of times, even if we can't always see it.

Instructional Aides

Now hiring substitute Instructional Aides and substitute Daycare workers. Position involves supervising students and assisting teachers. Must have some experience working with children.

Substitute Teachers

Now hiring substitute teachers for grades TK through eighth. Must have a BA and teaching experience. Position involves following lesson plans for a variety of grades and subject areas.

We are thankful for:

One more academic year at the Greek Bible College that is about to start. We praise God for His kindness and for the committed workers of the Gospel that are trained at the GrBC.
His provisions and his care in our everyday life.
The new ministry opportunities that He leads us to.
The inspiration of the Holy Spirit, as He leads His people to a new craving for sanctification and the proclamation of the Gospel.
Our spiritual family all around the world, which reflects God’s love and holiness.

Our prayer requests:

That God will lead more people to saving faith in Christ. Greece still suffers due to limited response to the proclamation of the Gospel and a small percentage of Christians with a living relationship with Jesus.
That the Church in Greece will edified and strengthened for a more fervent service to God and neighbor.
That the Holy Spirit will give us wisdom and humility for the upcoming academic year and our various ministry assignments.
That God will use my upcoming publications for His glory.
That God will provide both for our material and spiritual needs. Our fund-raising efforts are ongoing and so is our seeking a deeper relationship with our Lord.
That our family will keep growing in the Lord and our little girls will love Christ more and more as they grow.
