Ministry Expo

September 29th at 10:45 a.m. | Gym

Right after the Worship Service, head over to the Gym for the Ministry Expo, our annual event where you can meet the teams behind every ministry at SGCC! Come and explore opportunities, ask questions, and find out how you can use your giftedness.

This Expo is not only about service; it’s a chance to support the ministries in prayer and stay connected with what’s going on in the heart of our church.

New to SGCC? We’d love to meet you and introduce you to ministry leaders who can help you find a place to serve! You don’t need to be a church member to jump in, though membership classes start in October, so keep that on your radar.

Children's Ministries:

Book of the Week

The Moon is Always Round

by Eliza Huie, Mike Henson

Ages 4-7

This beautifully illustrated and empathetically written book walks children through a calming activity that focuses their attention on God and helps them manage their emotions.

Through a combination of breathing, prayer, and focusing on five things about God and his good gifts, children

will learn to count themselves calm. Children can

practice this calming activity while you read

them the book and then use it when they feel

upset, sad, angry, worried, anxious, or scared.

Greece

 A new academic year begins

God gave us a peaceful summer. My family and I managed to get away for ten days to western Greece and enjoy some quiet time before coming back to prepare for the new semester. Peace doesn’t exclude work though. The three months following the end of the last academic year were months of intense study and preparation, as well as spiritual refreshment. The Lord has blessed us with His loving presence and as a family we started studying the Scriptures with renewed spiritual hunger. Praise be to God.

The object of my studies last summer was philosophy (of course – keep reading for more info) and the western Church fathers, to whom we owe much as Evangelicals and in whose writings there is much spiritual wealth. Meanwhile, along with 2 friends associated to the college, we have been trying to set up a conference that will assist Christians without access to biblical studies to strengthen their faith and find guidance in matters of the Bible and everyday Christian living. So, it’s been a peaceful but busy summer, and we are grateful to God for the privilege of working for His Kingdom.

As for the college, the Lord has blessed us with a total of 33 students, out of whom 17 are English speaking (16 from the States and one from Turkey), plus a priest of the Catholic Church who has contacted us to assist him with a study he wants to pursue on the Synoptic Gospels. And this is where it gets interesting since I will be the one tutoring him on matters related to exegesis. Meet Père René-Luc. Père René has pursued to study with us as an independent student, in order to acquire a deeper knowledge of NT Greek and biblical exegesis. Père René is fully aware of our Evangelical theological beliefs and he is a man of humility, interested in apologetics and the proclamation of the Gospel. I have no idea what the results will be, but please pray for biblical integrity and spiritual wisdom for both of us.

Last but not least, about a month ago I had a conversation with the University of Newcastle in the UK, on a future series of books on philosophy and especially Transhumanism, my personal field of research. Long story short, a couple of weeks ago the contracts were signed and my first book in English will be published through an academic publishing house, sometime in 2025. Until the end of 2024 I will be working on the book while teaching Hermeneutics at the college and pastoring our students. May God use this publication for His glory and may people be affected by its theological outlook.

Our prayer requests:

  • That God will lead more people to saving faith in Christ. Greece still suffers due to limited response to the proclamation of the Gospel and a small percentage of Christians with a living relationship with Jesus.
  • That the Church in Greece will edified and strengthened for a more fervent service to God and neighbor.
  • That the Holy Spirit will give us wisdom and humility for the upcoming academic year and our various ministry assignments.
  • That God will use my upcoming publications for His glory.
  • That God will provide both for our material and spiritual needs. Our fund-raising efforts are ongoing and so is our seeking a deeper relationship with our Lord.
  • That our family will keep growing in the Lord and our little girls will love Christ more and more as they grow.

We are thankful to our Heavenly Father for all the He has done and all the He continues to do. May this year be a year of blessing, spiritual longings and an intense presence of the Lord into our lives.
