The Connection March 2019
The Sisterhood of
T
he Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah
|
|
So March came in like a lion! What else in this year of record setting cold and snow will happen? Well, just look at the calendar. There are fantastic inside activities conducive to warm conversations among warm ladies. Girls Night Out, Dinners and Films, Mah Jongg, and one not to be missed is our lovely "Taste of Passover". Mark your calendars and enjoy.
We'll celebrate Purim this month and no hamantashen to buy- remember those yummy hamantashen we sold at the Purim carnival? Miss them? Below is the recipe. So on a cold, snowy day (we have seen a few) bake a batch of the yummy hamantashen and in the spirit of the holiday-share them with friends and family. Not in the mood to bake, you'll just have to wait till next Purim!
In the meantime "Just think happy, warm thoughts ....."

HAMANTASHEN FOR PURIM
3 sticks butter
2 c. sugar
6 eggs
4 Tsp. frozen orange juice concentrate
8 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 cans Solo fruit filling
chocolate chips
Mix butter and sugar. Add eggs and orange juice. Add dry ingredients.
Chill dough for at least an hour (Hint: roll dough into 3 inch round logs before
refrigerating and then slicing into rounds for each cookie is easier).
If not refrigerating in logs, roll out 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 3 inch circles with
cookie cutter. Put heaping teaspoon filling in center, draw up sides, and bring the
third side across to form a 3 cornered pocket.
Glaze:
1 egg 1/2 eggshell water 1 tsp. sugar
Beat together and brush top of each cookie with the mixture. Bake in
preheated oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes about 9 dozen cookies.
