Greene County Baptists

are Great Commission Baptists

The JJMO: Fueling Local Missions

Joshua Hall, Director Of Missions

Scripturally, there are three primary ways we carry out

the Great Commission – we PRAY, we GIVE, and we GO. In this issue, I would like to talk to you about the second of those three methods, which is to GIVE.

To be more specific, one way that Greene County Baptists give to the spread of the gospel right here at home is through the Jim Joslin Missions Offering (JJMO).

As many of you know, Jim Joslin was the Director of Missions for GCBA from 1964-1997. As Bob Perry says in United on Mission, “Jim was much loved and appreciated by the entire association . . . . His humble spirit and calm leadership helped create a healthy culture for the work of Christ in the area.” Jim Joslin is a worthy namesake of the GCBA missions offering!

With that said, one might understandably ask, “Yes, but for what is the offering used?” Gifts from the JJMO are used to fuel special missions projects and ministries that aren’t fully covered by GCBA’s general budget. (A distribution breakdown appears elsewhere on this page.)

One new initiative we’re excited to announce is that one third of this year’s JJMO will be used to fund ministry grants for GCBA churches! Churches will be able to apply for grants to assist with missions and ministry projects in their community, and our Missions Team will award the grants based on pre-selected criteria and need. We will soon send a letter to every church explaining this process in more detail.

Whereas in the past we have emphasized the JJMO in the month of May, this year we are moving the emphasis back to the month of June. We would ask your church to prayerfully consider collecting the JJMO throughout the month of June, or perhaps collect a special offering one Sunday in June. We will make promotional materials available to our churches later this month. Of course, gifts can be made to the JJMO year-round by churches or individuals by giving online at gbaptist.org or mailing a check to our office. (Be sure it is over and above your tithe to your local church!)

Let’s team up through the JJMO to do some awesome Great Commission work together in Greene County for the glory of God!

In Christ,

Josh
