Christianity is a “going” faith. After the resurrection of Jesus, He told His disciples, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). Just as Jesus left the glory of Heaven to come in search of us, we are to go in search of those who need Jesus.
Too many churches have an attitude of, “The lost know where to find us and our service times are on the sign. If they want to come join us, let them come.” However, it is not enough for us to sit inside our comfortable church buildings and expect the lost to come to us. “Y’all come” is not a biblical evangelism strategy! Our churches must be proactive in taking the Gospel to our communities.
It is with this thought in mind that I commend to you our second annual “Crossover Greene County” emphasis. During the dates of May 9-18, we encourage every GCBA congregation to do something intentional that touches your community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What that looks like is up to you. For instance, your church could do any of the following: host a block party, perform an act of service, have a food distribution, show an evangelistic film, canvas your neighborhood, or encourage your members to personally share the Gospel with one friend or family member. There are many different platforms for sharing the Good News, so use your creativity!
Whatever platform your church utilizes, the main point is that you find a way to share Jesus and provide people an opportunity to respond. Our hope and prayer is that through the coordinated efforts of our churches, the cross of Jesus Christ will be lifted high over every nook and cranny of Greene County.
At the end of this dedicated period of time, we will conclude our Crossover emphasis with a celebration service at Hamlin Baptist Church on Sunday night, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. Our churches will come together and celebrate our partnership in the Gospel and how God used our collective efforts for His glory. Pastor Chad Mathes from Red Tree Church will bring an inspirational message, and the Hamlin worship team will lead us in praising our King. We had a great turnout for this event last year, and we anticipate the same this year! We encourage all our churches not to “cancel” your Sunday night service, but to “move” it to Hamlin to join your brothers and sisters from across GCBA.
If you would like to take part in Crossover Greene County, what are your next steps? 1) “Plan your work.” Prayerfully determine as a church what your evangelism strategy will be during the designated dates. 2) Go to gbaptist.org and fill out the brief registration form to help us track who is doing what and where! 3) “Work your plan.” Carry out your evangelistic strategy. 4) Send us pictures of your evangelistic efforts so we can make a slide show for the celebration service. 5) Attend the celebration service at Hamlin, and let’s worship Jesus together! He is worthy!
In Christ,
