NEWS

Veterans and retirees will see an 8.7% cost-of-living increase in their Social Security benefits starting in December, the largest increase in 42 years, federal officials announced on Thursday.

The big boost reflects the rising cost of inflation throughout the last year. In a statement, acting Social Security Administration Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi said the move will give beneficiaries “more peace of mind and breathing room.”

The Marines famously have the reputation of being “first to fight.” But one Marine has earned another, lesser-known, distinction: first woman to complete 27 chest-to-ground burpees in one minute.

Sgt. Nahla Beard, an air traffic control supervisor at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, smashed the Guinness World Record in burpees on Aug. 14, 2021, the service announced last month.

Victims of military sexual assault could be eligible for tens of thousands of dollars in retroactive disability benefits under a proposal being unveiled by pair of House lawmakers this week.

The measure is unlikely to become law this year, given the short legislative schedule left before the end of December. But bill sponsors say they hope to either find a way to fast-track the measure or use it as the basis for similar legislation at the start of the next congressional session, where the idea could be advanced as part of more comprehensive military or veterans legislation.

VETERAN SERVICES
NCServes is the first state-wide network to coordinate care for Veterans and their families.
Every Veteran and every family is different.

Therefore their care must be tailored to meet their unique needs. The only way all of these needs can be met is through a networked approach.

Ask if the organization you are working with if they are a NCServes member.
