It can be a struggle for transitioning veterans to connect their military experience to potential civilian employers — especially when applying to work in industries different from those they excelled in during service.
Britt Brown, who served in the Air Force as a commissioned officer for six and a half years, achieving the rank of captain, says, “I was very intentional about seeking out resources to help support a successful transition.”

Often, a song can capture a life better than a long story. Songwriter Don Goodman knows this well.
The album, “Freedom Sings WWII” in which Stubblefield’s song is featured, has 15 songs on it, all written about other World Ward II veterans. “To sit there and listen to their stories and go back to World War Two with them is amazing,” Goodman said.

As part of the U.S. military’s ongoing efforts to stem suicide in the ranks, the Navy and Marine Corps are partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs to distribute 200,000 gun locks to installations nationwide.
The gun locks can be picked up at VA facilities across the country, as well as at local Fleet and Family Support Centers and Marine Corps Community Services locations.

The Red Cross's Service to the Armed Forces group is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver Welcome Home Kit (household goods to assist homeless Veterans who recently moved into a home). They need volunteers to serve as delivery drivers. If you are interested in volunteering for this program or other Red Cross opportunities, please go to RedCross.org. Look for the word Volunteer in the upper righthand side and get started.
