Opelika City Schools Reinstate Mask Requirement
Due to the local high positivity rate of COVID and based upon the recommendations of local physicians, the Opelika City Schools will reinstate the mask requirement for all students and staff beginning Tuesday, January 18, 2022. OCS will have masks available for those who need them. Masks will be required indoors and on school buses through the end of the school day on Friday, January 28, 2022. OCS reminds parents to monitor their children for COVID symptoms and keep them home if they are sick. 

City of Opelika's Court Forgiveness Program
The City of Opelika is offering its first ever Court Forgiveness Program. The program provides an opportunity for those with certain municipal court charges to clear their cases without concern of being physically arrested. 2022 AMEA Scholarship Program Application Deadline is February 14th
Will you be graduating from high school in the spring of 2022? Do you receive your electricity from a public power utility in Alabama? Then if your answer to these questions is “yes,” you could be eligible to receive a scholarship from the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) and its Member cities/utilities. AMEA and its Members will make available 44, $2,500 scholarships (4 scholarships per Member city) in 2022. Applications are currently available from school counselors in AMEA Member cities, or you can go online to the AMEA web site, www.amea.com, Scholarship. Application deadline is Monday, Feb. 14, 2022. Opelika Theatre Company Announcements
The Opelika Theatre Company has many great things going on to start off 2022! Check out the list below and for more information see here.
  • Opelika Theatre Company Shoe Drive has been extended to February 15th. They have currently collected 35 bags with a goal of collecting 65. The shoes will be sent to third world countries to help citizens improve their economy. Drop off locations are Opelika Library, Auburn Bank, Tigertown, Franklin Tire, Southside Center, Opelika Observer, and the Chamber of Commerce.
  • O-ACT academy classes are growing by leaps and bounds. They offer classes for ages 5 through adults in all aspects of stage performing and musical theatre. The acting classes focus on scene studies, audition skills, acting techniques, improv, communication skills, character development and more.
  • Wesley Knox, veteran stage actor and director will be offering adult acting classes on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Register for an introductory FREE class for Wednesday, January 24th.
  • The OTC is partnering with NAACP/ACT-SO and R.E.A.C.H. to present a showcase for Black History Month - Celebrating Black Greatness. This show will be at Southside Center for the Arts on February 26th at 2pm and 7pm. Applications are being accepted for performers of all ages and the deadline for applications is January 31st.
