MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

I would like to thank our families for the outpouring of support for our Grandparent's Day celebration. It was an honor to have so many of our grandparents travel, near and far, to attend our program. We salute and give thanks for our grandparents because they connect us with our heritage and our roots through the mists of time. We are grateful for the example of their unwavering faith, for the witness of their lives, unconditional love and the support of their prayers. We celebrate them today and always!

This is a friendly reminder that we have a scheduled early dismissal on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, for all students due to professional development sessions for our teachers and staff. All students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. Please note that AFTERCARE WILL NOT BE PROVIDED on Wednesday. We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.

Students, in grades K through 8, will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment in reading and mathematics between September 19, 2023 through September 29, 2023. The NWEA MAP assessments are computer adaptive achievement assessments in reading and math. As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, adjusting up or down the difficulty of the questions presented to the student. MAP assessment items align to objectives in the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. This assessment is designed to measure student growth these subject areas, both during the school year and across multiple school years. The assessment allows teachers to see instructional strengths and needs for each student. Furthermore, it will provide vital feedback and enhance differentiated learning experiences for our students.

WEEKLY FEATURE

Back to School Health and Wellness

Let's Work Together

The health and well being of your child is our top priority. We encourage all of our families to take an active role in measures to ensure the health and well being of your child during cold and flu season.

  • Children with a fever of 100 degrees or above and or other active symptoms of flu or infection (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or pinkish/red swollen eyes with a discharge) should be kept at home. Your child should be fever-free for 24 hours without medications (Tylenol or Ibuprofen) before returning to school.
  • Children who have seen the doctor and were prescribed antibiotics for strep, pink eye or other illnesses should remain out of school for 24 hours after beginning the medication.

COVID UPDATE

There has been an increase in the number of COVID cases aligned to a new variant. The most recent guidance from the Maryland Department of Health and CDC requires that a student or staff member, who has contracted the virus, must quarantine for five days. If, on the sixth day, the individual is fever free and NOT on a fever reducing medication, he or she may return to school but must wear a mask for five days.

The school year will begin as mask optional. We will closely monitor any updates from the Maryland Department of Health and CDC as we progress throughout the school year. I will notify all parents immediately if we have to shift to a mandatory mask requirement.
