I am barely old enough to remember when J. Edgar Hoover was in charge of the FBI, but I know that after his death, several abuses of power came to light. Our Constitution requires three separate but equal branches of government. A system of checks and balances on each branch by the other branches ensures that America will never be run by a dictator. While some extreme liberals in Washington D.C. wish to now claim that there is no way any official at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) could abuse their power, it is the job of Congress to ensure this doesn't happen. Let me be clear, the vast majority of men and women that serve in the FBI are outstanding individuals whom I have the utmost respect for and am grateful for. It is also true that the historical record shows that the FBI does not have a perfect record. The freedoms we are granted in our Constitution must be protected by each and every generation of Americans. I encourage you to take time to read the FISA Memo that has been released and formulate your own thoughts. I believe firmly it was right to release it to the American people. The cost of our freedom is high. Many men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that you and your family live in a free nation. We cannot allow a few officials in a federal government department to abuse these freedoms. Onward,
